LG Preparing Phone With Own Quad Core L9 Processor, Coming This Fall With 10+ MP Camera Posted: 09 Jul 2012 11:47 AM PDT It appears that not only Huawei and Samsung will launch quad core phones based on their own CPUs this year, but also LG. While Huawei is delaying the quad core handset a lot and Samsung actually decided to lend its solution to other makes like Meizu and apparently Apple too, now it’s LG that joins this bandwagon. They’re making the quad core L9 processor and if this name sounds familiar, last I heard the L9 was a dual core CPU powering the LG Google TV. Now it’s a quad core affair, but these are only rumors, that also say we’re dealing with an ARM Cortex A9 unit, although we would have liked the more advanced Cortex A15 generation, that has yet to be used on a modern handset or tablet. And now imagine an LG smartphone with quad core L9 processor, 10 megapixel camera (or more) and a True HD screen like the one on the Optimus 4x HD. Huawei’s K3V2 processor wasn’t that impressive in benchmarks, showing that sometimes creating your own tech doesn’t pay. Will LG’s solution actually work better? I guess we’ll just have to wait and see, but for now there’s only one quad core LG phone on the market and that’s the LG Optimus 4X HD, with Tegra 3 on board. Related posts: |
Samsung T699 May Be Rebranded Galaxy S Blaze Q, Coming in August Posted: 09 Jul 2012 03:34 AM PDT I don’t know what you’re doing on August 15th, but what I do know what T-Mobile in planning: the release of the Samsung T699… with a rebranding. It appears that the model will be released as the Galaxy S Blaze Q, which is a very strange and silly name. Are you going to ask in stores for a Galaxy S Blaze, a Blaze S Q or a Galaxy Q? Anyway, this handset is a version of the Samsung Galaxy S III apparently, with a sliding keyboard, 1.5 GHz Snapdragon S4 processor and 720p display. Other specs include a 5 megapixel back camera and 1GB of RAM, so not exactly the 2GB of RAM and 8MP shooter were expecting.. Also, it doesn’t say anything about the screen size, that I expect to be somewhere between 4 and 4.3 inches in diagonal. At least, the resolution is still 720p… Is it just me or is this the actual first Snapdragon S4-based sliding QWERTY phone? Some people still love that format and that’s as powerful as it gets right now, when it comes to raw CPU power and performance. Now imagine a quad core Snapdragon and drool! Related posts: |
Sony Xperia Go Coming to O2 UK Soon Posted: 09 Jul 2012 03:12 AM PDT O2 UK will be the first local carrier to offer the brand new Sony Xperia Go smartphone, that’s destined for people with active lifestyles. The handset already has a dedicated page at the O2′s Coming Soon area, where it says that this model is coming later this month. There’s no price mentioned but I’m guessing that the phone will be available for free on a 2 year contract. The contract should set the user back about 20 quid a month, which is pretty reasonable, if you ask me. The Xperia Go is both water and dust proof and it was announced together with the Xperia Acro S not so long ago. The specs are pretty modest and this one of those midrange tinier phones, with a 1 GHz dual core processor, 3.5 inch HVGA screen, 512MB of RAM and 5 megapixel camera. There’s also GPS on board, Bluetooth, 8 GB of storage and Android 2.3 Gingerbread as the OS of choice. Android 4.0 ICS should arrive on this model, since it’s running on poorer configurations, but I doubt you’ll ever get Jelly Bean on this unit, since there are speculations that not even the Galaxy S II will get it. So, are you getting the Xperia Go? Related posts: |
BlackBerry App World Reaches 3 Billion Downloads, Didn’t Think they Had it in them Posted: 09 Jul 2012 01:42 AM PDT In spite of RIM’s current sad situation, at least they’re managing to move software around, with the BlackBerry App World recently hitting 3 billion downloads. The figure is very far from Google and Apple’s achievements in this field, but it’s still impressive for a company that’s going under. It took them 786 days to reach the one billion mark and 210 days to reach 2 billion. Now it only took 176 days for the 3 billion mark, meaning that on average 2.5 million downloads are happening per day. Just like Android Market in its early days, the numbers include themes and wallpapers, not only apps and games, so it’s kind of cheating. Right now there are over 90k apps for sale in the App World, but considering the recent compatibility with Android apps on the PlayBook I wouldn’t worry about software… RIM outlines the fact that “up for sale” it more important than saying “submitted” and “approved”, which is an attempt to attack Windows Phone and the number of apps they offer versus the apps they have available. The two are dueling in the same lower side of the spectrum of apps, moving in the tens of thousands, while Google and Apple have hundreds of thousands. Related posts: |
