SoldierKnowsBest on Nokia 808 PureView: “This thing is just crazy insane”

Posted: 18 Jul 2012 06:20 AM PDT

Tech video blogger, SoldierKnowsBest takes a look at the Nokia 808 PureView. I thought it was interesting to find his take on this because he’s a keen techy fan, likes a lot of Apple stuff and his audience seems mostly US based.

He’s really pleased with the camera and rich recording for video. I was shocked at the video quality presented as that’s possibly the worst I’ve ever seen shot on the 808. What was up with that? Everything kept wobbling. So video stabilisation actually makes videos WORSE?

The comment section in YouTube is quite funny. A lot of misinformation being spread against the Nokia 808 PureView. Time and time again, several tech blogs have done independent tests and have crowned the 808. Blind tests against not just phones but more dedicated cameras showing the 808 holding its own. But I guess that’s part and parcel of YouTube comment drivel.

Nokia 808 PureView and Symbian – Worth its salt

Posted: 18 Jul 2012 04:00 AM PDT

Matthew Miller, ex Nokia blogger (from Nokia Experts) and current writer for ZDNet, wrote an article last week about the Nokia 808 PureView where he basically gave up on Symbian.

http://www.zdnet.com/nokia-808-pureview-best-camera-ever-in-a-phone-is-not-enough-to-buoy-sinking-symbian-7000000649/

After using the Nokia 808 PureView for the last week, I have to say it is time for me to throw in the towel and give up on Symbian. It’s a real shame too since the 808 PureView is the absolute BEST camera phone available today. However, if I can’t reliably receive my email, struggle to browse websites, and be forced to give up apps I use every day on other platforms then there is no way I can justify the nearly $800 ($699 plus $70 in tax) for me to purchase this from Amazon.

It’s not like Matthew Miller isn’t an expert of Symbian to know or misrepresent its virtues. In that post, he’s clearly had enough. After that conclusion what seemingly foolish thing did he do? Well he bought his own Nokia 808 PureView! After playing with the best camera phone in the world, how could he pass it up?

http://www.zdnet.com/another-week-with-the-nokia-808-pureview-convinces-me-its-worth-the-700-7000001019/

He’s warmed again to his early frustrations with Symbian:

After several more days with it, I have to say the $760 I spent was worth it and I am really loving the device…While I do enjoy the convenience of many apps and services, Symbian still gets the essentials right and cuts to the chase.

Cheers Tiv for the tip!

“Something Amazing is coming…7.9.2012″ Nokia Flagship Store Helsinki getting ready for Nokia World goodies?

Posted: 18 Jul 2012 03:48 AM PDT

We got a couple of pictures, above and below from ‘Esbo’ who spotted that the Nokia flagship store in Helsinki was closed for renovation.

It indicates that the store is coming back to action on the 7th of September 2012.  Remember that Nokia World is September 5-6. We’ve been expecting some renovations to take place and ‘new devices’ to appear once it was done. Could it mean new as in new WP or new as in new Asha (that was already announced but were just not there yet)

What do you reckon will be happening on 7.9.2012?

Here’s a video tour of the ‘old’ flagship store, as shot by the Nokia 808 PureView:

If you fire up your barcode reader (or just go to the site under it) you’ll see

More info:

They’re going to do something different with the shop.

Thanks Esbo for the tip!
