Nexus S Receives Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean Via OTA Posted: 20 Jul 2012 10:18 AM PDT Of all the devices that could receive Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean, here we are with a phone from 2010… I’m talking about the Nexus S obviously, that is now reported to have receive the update in some areas of the world. So, it pays to hang on to Nexus series devices, right? The update is slowly rolling out as we speak. This software package is 114.4 MB in size and it loaded just fine on some i9023 models, as well as some i9020T units out there. However, the folks of Android Central are reporting that their i9020T unit didn’t get the update, so don’t be happy just yet. If you don’t want to wait for the OTA, you can rely on the zip file from the Google servers and download it from here. This one requires to use a custom recovery to get it on your device. One of the XDA folks is reporting that he got the update in Pakistan, so Asia might be privileged as far as this update goes. I’m sure that it will roll out to every Nexus S owner by the end of the week. Other devices to get the update in this time frame are the Motorola Xoom and Galaxy Nexus. Related posts: |
Samsung Jasper Picture Leaked in Verizon Inventory Posted: 20 Jul 2012 05:14 AM PDT There’s a fresh leak in town and it’s not even related to Apple this time. It’s Samsung’s turn to leak a new handset, or better said the turn of Verizon, since they managed to let us know way too early about the looks of the Samsung Jasper handset. The Samsung Jasper SCH-I200 phone has been rumored for a while now and it’s finally real. The handset is now pictured above and it looks like your run of the mill midrange or maybe even low end device. It comes with Verizon’s 4G service, according to what’s written on the back of the case. Speculated specs include LTE 4G connectivity, a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor and a 800 x 480 pixel display, with an unknown diagonal size for now. We also know that this smartphone will run Android 4.0 and that it has a button for multitasking replacing the search button. The launch date of the newcomer is unknown, but the phone is expected to debut soon enough, maybe even this week. We’ll keep you posted on the future specs and leaks that the Samsung Jasper will be linked to. Related posts: |
Firefox OS Screenshots Appear Online, Looks Like a Hybrid Between Android and iOS Posted: 20 Jul 2012 04:53 AM PDT The folks of TechWeek Europe got up close and personal with the Firefox OS, that seems to look like a hybrid between Android and iOS at first sight. You can get all the details you need from the pictures below. This platform is driven by HTML5 and it already has strong carrier support, so expect it to reach a large number of companies in the future. The interface will be able to separate this platform from other rivals, but in some aspects it’s clear that it borrowed heavily from iOS and Android. You get to see the lockscreen, virtual keyboard, app list and contacts section. The lockscreen shows notifications as revealed in the picture above and in the pictures below you get to see the home screen, filled with apps. I particularly like the Contacts area, that’s very well arranged and organized and very aired up. The virtual keyboard is pretty much a ripoff from iOS, if you ask me and I think Apple will have a thing or two to say to its lawyers after seeing this OS. Meanwhile, the Photo Gallery app is reminiscent of the one in Android, so nothing impressive here. Since it uses HTML5, the Firefox OS won’t match the speed and responsiveness of iOS or Jelly Bean, but Mozilla still claims it’s faster than Android and lighter. Well, if it manages storage and RAM better, I’m happy. Related posts: |

This model is the Fly IQ 255 Pride, that also packs a GPS module and support for WiFi and 3G. The handset measures 11.6 mm in thickness, weighs 168 grams and uses a 3.95 inch HVGA resolution display. At the back there’s a 3 megapixel camera, while the specs list of the 255 Fly IQ Pride includes FM Radio, 512MB of ROM and RAM, a microSD card slot and Bluetooth 2.1. Micro USB and a 3.5mm audio jack are obviously here, as well as the Li-Ion 1600 mAh battery. Don’t expect Ice Cream Sandwich on this device, like… ever. Related posts: |
