Samsung Crushes Apple in Q2 Smartphone Sales Posted: 17 Jul 2012 02:25 PM PDT Samsung has become the world’s greatest phone maker months ago, when it overtook Nokia for the position and lately people have been saying that Sammy also passed Apple in the smartphone sales area. According to a recent Reuters poll that trend has been confirmed, with the South Korean maker being the biggest smartphone seller in Q2. The company is thought to have sold 50 million smartphones over the past 3 months, compared to the mere 30.5 million iPhones. IDC analyst Francisco Jeronimo says that Samsung is expected to be the smartphone hero for Q2. Analysts also say that they’re expecting Q2 to reveal the biggest smartphone volumes ever shipped in the world by a single vendor in one quarter. The Galaxy portofolio is behind this, especially the S II and S III models, that are driving the growth for both Samsung and the entire product segment. Samsung is estimated to have sold 15.7 million more mobile phones than Nokia in Q2 2012, that means quite a big jump from the 3.4 million unit lead it had in the second quarter of this year. Will Apple make up the difference through the iPhone 5 at the year end? Related posts: |
T-Mobile Announces Samsung Galaxy Note, Makes Us Feel Like 2011 Posted: 17 Jul 2012 07:15 AM PDT Samsung Galaxy Note, the famous 5.3 inch phablet has been available in Europe for almost a year now and in the US it’s still having trouble taking off through all major carriers and retailers. For example, T-Mobile just announced the hybrid between tablet and smartphone and the only advantage here is that this version will run Android 4.0 ICS with Premium Suite out of the box. The device will also be able to use the T-Mobile speedy HSPA+ 42 Mbps network and you should know that this phablet is certified with SAFE (Samsung Approved for Enterprise) and comes with a 5.3 inch HD Super AMOLED screen, 1.5 GHz dual core Snapdragon S3 CPU (I would prefer the Exynos version, honestly) and an 8 megapixel camera, the exact same sensor from the Samsung Galaxy S II. There’s also a front 2 megapixel camera, full HD video recording and playback and S Pen support. T-Mobile has yet to confirm the pricing, but what we do know is that the device will be available at T-Mobile sales channels in the following weeks. Will you be getting one? If the price is under $100 on contract, it may be worth it… Related posts: |
Sony Brings Trio of Xperia Android Models to USA Posted: 17 Jul 2012 12:53 AM PDT Showcased at MWC 2012, the Sony Xperia P, Xperia U and Xperia S have now arrived in the USA, after already being available in Europe for a while now. Distributor Brightstar is the one taking care of the newcomers, revealing that sometime this summer, they would introduce the trio in the States. The Xperia S is the higher end unit of the group, with a 1.5 GHz dual core S3 processor, 1GB of RAM, 12 megapixel camera and a 4.3 inch 720p screen. We’ve already reviewed the phone here and found it to be underwhelming, especially because we had great expectations from it. The main problem was the fact that the capacitive buttons were hard to press and hard to get right by intuition only. The display looked nice, the camera was pretty good, but the focusing problems were a bit of a bummer. The Xperia P is a lower end unit, with a dual core 1 GHz processor, an STE NovaThor component instead of the Snapdragon. The camera is an 8 megapixel unit and the screen measures 4 inches in diagonal, offering a qHD resolution. Taking things down a notch again, the Xperia U offers 512MB of RAM, a 3.5 inch FWVGA display and a 5 megapixel main camera. Prices of these models available unlocked are $560, $480 and $300 respectively. All of them support 3G connectivity on AT&T and T-Mobile. Related posts: |
