Samsung Galaxy Nexus Still Banned in USA; Google Prepares Update to Fix That

Posted: 04 Jul 2012 02:25 AM PDT

When HTC had its phone held at US customs for infringing on Apple patents they solved that updating the devices and making them legal. That’s what Google will do now with the Galaxy Nexus, that’s just been banned from USA last week, after being found as infringing Apple’s patents.

Yesterday Judge Lucy Koh rejected the appeal on the ban of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and now it rejected the same measure for the Galaxy Nexus. The problem here is the Apple ’604 patent related to unified search, that’s causing all this mess. Samsung has already appealed to the Federal Appeals Court to lift the Galaxy Nexus injunction, while Google is preparing its own software patch to solve the problem and remove the infringing portion of code.

In the meantime, Google has also taken the Galaxy Nexus off the Play Store shelves and now it’s listed as “Coming Soon”, at least till the patch arrives. Well, as long as it’s not a hardware/design infringements everything can be solved. Let’s see if Galaxy S III can make it through the month without a ban…

Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III Coming on July 10 Starting at $199

Samsung Galaxy S III may be a hot topic all over the world and a hot seller, being expected to sell 10 million units by the end of the summer, but Verizon still hasn’t launched it in USA. Some people say that these delays were caused by Apple and their usual lawsuit spree, but one thing’s for sure: it’s July and the phone’s coming!

Verizon now promises a solid release date for this model: July 10 2012. That’s the date when the new Samsung Galaxy unit will be available in both retail stores and online at Verizonwireless.com. The 16GB version of the handset will go for $199.99 with a 2 year contract, while the 32GB unit will go for $249.99 and it will only be available on the website. It will come to the stores in the weeks after that, says the carrier. Obviously both Marble White and Pebble Blue variants will be available.

Verizon originally promised to sell the 4.8 inch quad core a bit later, but the fact that AT&T and Sprint put the phone on sale this week made them rush the process. Also, AT&T had to face high preorder numbers and pushed things back, so stocks are pretty slim at the moment. So, are you ready to commit one week from now?
