Nimbuzz Chat Client now Available for WP

Posted: 15 Jul 2012 12:28 PM PDT

Some prefer whatsapp, others prefer plain old SMS, but there are quite a few that use Nimbuzz; and if you have a Lumia device well so can you, today Nimbuzz for WP went live bringing connectivity with all 98+million users to WP. Personally I’m a whatsapper but Nimbuzz is pretty cool for using other IM networks (MSN & Gtalk) so here’s the link hit it up and enjoy:

Nokia Pakistan Holding App Event Centered on S40

Posted: 15 Jul 2012 12:18 PM PDT

Here’s a little event one of our readers tipped us off about, Nokia Pakistan are holding an “app summit” where they are supposedly going to discuss developing applications for the S40 platform while showcasing the full touch ashas; specifically the 306, 305&311, along with some pureview fun (Maybe some talks about future Nokia Belle updates?). Anyways since meltemi has “un-officially” been scrapped it’s S40 all the way, hopefully we’ll be seeing more interesting things to come.

Tip of the hat to Sibt Ul Hasnain Ashmal for letting us know about this, cheers :D

Hints of Bluetooth File Transfer and USB Mass Storage/OTG for WP8?

Posted: 15 Jul 2012 05:26 AM PDT

When we saw the WP8 developer preview, we were immediately informed that more consumer features would be unveiled at a later point. This isn’t quite official just yet, but a couple of related stories hints that two of the most requested user features by some of our readers appears to be coming.

The pocket-lint post suggests USB mass transfer and hosting capabilities whilst thenextweb article indicates BT file transfer. Neither of these features are anything new to shout about, but they’ll be welcome by those users who are adamant that they cannot use the platform until it has it.

Cheers Manu for the tips!

Qt lead team: Elop has brought lot of fresh ideas how to do things

Here’s a comment from jiipee at our comment section.

Suprise, suprise!

I've got something positive on Elop ;) I already posted this to a blog, but here it comes:
"Don't agree with guys who claim Elop is the worst CEO ever. He has brought lot of fresh ideas how to do things."

https://twitter.com/eeropenttinen/status/224141846354468864

Eero used to be a key person for Qt (eg team lead on Qt for Symbian) and he posted also this earlier:
"@tomiahonen thanks Tomi, we did our best. We gave all we had with best guys to make a dream become true, but now that's over."

@WindowsPhone, get your act together. Toshl Publishing Nightmares (@benthepcguy)

Posted: 15 Jul 2012 01:23 AM PDT

Toshl (finance tracking app) is a great app that I first used on Maemo 5, then Symbian and finally Windows Phone. They’re currently on my todo list for lumiappaday.

After taking the time to put their app out to Windows Phone, it is very disheartening to hear they’re having problems publishing their apps to marketplace.

https://toshl.com/blog/why-publishing-on-the-windows-phone-marketplace-is-like-walking-barefoot-on-broken-glass/

I’ve not encountered similar stories yet from other developers so I’m not sure if this is a widespread thing. The ones I’ve heard are Nokia related wp developers who Nokia helped and they’ve had a more pleasant time with Nokia support. MS, with Nokia’s critical help has made Marketplace relevant, boosting its app numbers to over 100,000. Developer support is utterly important for Windows Phone’s success. So much so that they were prepared to throw Nokia under a buss with the WP8/WP7.8 early announcement.

Why make things difficult for your developers too, MS? Perhaps they’re learning too much from Nokia’s book of ‘making everything as difficult for yourself as possible”.

Cheers outdated os for the tip
