Lumiappaday #242: 3D Audio Experience demoed on the Nokia Lumia 900

Posted: 14 Jul 2012 11:51 AM PDT

If you’ve not experienced Holophonics before, this is something you should try. Plenty of videos are available on YouTube to check out and this is a selection of some of those 3D audio experiences.

Now, I’ve mentioned that with the Nokia 808 PureView, because of the richness of the stereo recording, if you close your eyes and listen, it’s like you’re there. 3D Audio with Holophonics is all about that but a little bit more complicated (though can be mimicked really well with the 808).

The recording is done with a special ‘head’ so that sound enters the recording device similar to how our own heads/ears receive those sounds (as opposed to being recorded by open mics).

Anyway the app itself is just a very well presented collection of some 3D sounds.

Note: You will need headphones for this to work.

Weekend Read: Nokia Death Spiral

Posted: 14 Jul 2012 12:30 AM PDT

It’s not like we haven’t discussed this enough already, but we’ve got a tip from a couple of readers wanting this shared.

It’s written by Mark Wilcox. I’ve not encountered his work before, nor am I aware of his background but what he puts forward are quite interesting perspectives about the current dire Nokia situation. If you follow or participate in the comment sections here, this won’t be very new to you, but it’s a good read nonetheless.

Cheers jiipee and NeNoRmAl for the tip
