Samsung SPH-L300 Leaked and Compared to the HTC One X in Pictures

Posted: 23 Jul 2012 12:52 PM PDT

Samsung is done with the high end stuff for a while, at least for a month, till Galaxy Note II comes and now seems to focus on midrange phones. One of them is the Samsung SPH-300, that has just been leaked online, pictured next to the HTC One X. This new Sammy model will run Android 4.0 ICS, according to rumors.

The folks of BriefMobile are claiming that the Samsung SPH-L300 will be known as Samsung Goph, a very poor name if you ask me. This is a non 4G LTE model, that will come to Sprint and pack some decent specifications. The device appears to have an aluminum design, apparently a brushed aluminum-style body, that may actually be plastic made to look like it. Other specs include a 4 inch AMOLED screen, Android 4.0 ICS and a 1.2 GHz dual core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor.

There’s also a 5 megapixel camera on board, as well as NFC and probably 1GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. Expect further details to appear in the following days. Also, I wonder if Sprint will price this device right.

Apple Preparing Smaller Dock Connector for iPhone 5

Posted: 23 Jul 2012 12:23 PM PDT

We’ve heard this theory before, but now it’s back in full force and with Reuters detailing the news, it feels more solid than ever. It appears that the future iPhone version will use a smaller dock connector, replacing the famous 30 pin port, used so often by Apple over the past years.

The idea is to make room for the earphone port, now moved to the bottom, instead of the top part. Also, I’ve heard that the speakers on the new handset will be bigger, so they need more room, granted b a 19 pin connector. Accessory makers will be thrilled by this, but owners of cradles and dock accessories won’t, since they’ll have to buy new ones for the new iPhone. The new Apple phone is expected to arrive in October, packing a 19 pin connector, a 4 inch Retina Display and a glass and metal back.

Apple could launch an adaptor to appease the people angered by their decisions to switch ports, but if I know Apple like I do I must say they won’t launch it. Accessory vendors are probably already preparing for big time profits and accessory makers in China are already working on new stuff. There are companies that already placed their headphone jack on the lower part of cases that are supposedly made for the iPhone 5. Will this connector switch influence your upgrade? Will you upgrade?

iPhone 5 Production Started in Shanghai, Done by Pegatron

Posted: 23 Jul 2012 04:45 AM PDT

The iPhone 5 production has reportedly started in Asia, thanks to Taiwanese company Pegatron, that’s handling the process. One would expect Foxconn to do it, but they’re probably booked up with the iPad and maybe with the iPad Mini as well. Of course, Foxconn will work on the new iPhone as well, not only Pegatron.

The Taiwanese company has started the manufacturing in Shanghai, according to the usual source of such info, Digitimes. This follows a previous report saying basically the same thing, although at the time the manufacturer wasn’t mentioned. We also get a few details about the handset’s looks, that now include both glass and aluminum on the back side. The iPhone 4S only uses glass covering on the front and back. The iPhone 5 is expected to arrive this fall, packing a 4 inch Retina Display with 16:9 aspect ratio.

Previous iPhones packed a 3.5 inch display with a 3:2 aspect ratio. Digitimes also says that Pegatron will also be involved in the production of the “new version of the iPad”, whatever that means. The image above is a mere mockup, but it may be close to Apple’s fresh design for the iPhone. With the handset rumored to debut in October, isn’t it early to start production in July?

Samsung Galaxy S III Reaches 10 Million Units Sold

Posted: 23 Jul 2012 01:26 AM PDT

Samsung Galaxy S III is the phone that got around 8 million preorders in just weeks after its announcement and ahead of its store release. Now, the same model is said to have surpassed 10 million sales, just like Sammy predicted for the summer. Even Apple has felt the heat of the new Galaxy S, that threatens to be the best selling handset ever.

The 10 million milestone was achieved earlier than predicted or expected and that’s partly due to the huge marketing campaign that Samsung has prepared. The phone is associated with the Olympic Games and it was all over the sidelines during the final of the Champions League this year. The device has been available in Europe and Asia since the end of May and in North America from June, so it took so little to reach this number. Yonhap News Agency is stating that the phone sells around 190.000 units per day.

Take this info with a grain of salt, since it’s yet unclear if 10 million is the number of units sold to consumers or ones shipped to retailers. Estimates now say that the Galaxy S III could see as much as 40 million sales by the end of the year, which is a very impressive feat for any device nowadays. Also, this increases Samsung’s profits and performance for the following and current quarters. With the Galaxy Note II announcement coming, things will get even more interesting.
