T-Mobile myTouch and myTouch Q Huawei Handsets Get Fondled Ahead of August Release

Posted: 11 Jul 2012 01:42 PM PDT

Huawei and T-Mobile have just announced the myTouch and myTouch Q Android smartphones and it appears that they’ll come on August 8th. Priced at $49.99, these devices have been fondled by The Verge in a hands on experience. Both models come with 5 megapixel cameras, with autofocus and LED flashes.

They also share 4 inch WVGA displays, HSPA+ support and front facing cameras for video calls. Also on board we find 1.4 GHz single core processors and in the mix as well there’s a Genius Button in the capacitive button row. This one launches a custom voice control service and we also have some bad news: both these models run Android 2.3 Gingerbread. The folks of The Verge said that they were impressed by the build quality and material choice, especially on the textured non slip rear covers.

The keyboard on the Q unit worked fine and had great feedback. Obviously, the choice of Gingerbread was criticized, since that’s basically 3 Android releases ago. Other than that, with the build quality and nifty price and hopefully with a fast Android 4.0 update, these handsets will be very appreciated.

Philips W732 Dual SIM Android Smartphone Gives You 13 Hours of Battery Life

Posted: 11 Jul 2012 01:23 PM PDT

The Philips W732 dual SIM phone is yet another one of those phones that you won’t see released all over the world… so for now it remains in Russia. This Android 4.0 ICs handset provides a unique 13 hours of battery life in talk mode, which is great even by today’s standards.

The handset also provides up to 10.5 hours of functioning in web surfing mode on a single charge. All of that is achieved with a 2400 mAh battery. This device has modest specs, that include a 1 GHz single core CPU, the MediaTek MT6575 unit, plus a 4.3 inch touchscreen display with a 480 x 800 pixel resolution. Other features include a 5 megapixel camera, GPS, HSDPA/HSUPA, WiFi and Bluetooth. Philips W732 measures 12.3mm in thickness and weighs 166.5 grams.

The device will be sold in China and it will come in black, pink, green, white and Blue. So Russia and China are lucky enough to get the smartphone for now and hopefully we will get the dual SIM battery powerhouse in other countries as well.

LG Optimus LTE II Surfaces on Verizon Dubbed VS930, Specs Included

Posted: 11 Jul 2012 10:42 AM PDT

Well, here we are with a brand new Android smartphone from LG, the Optimus LTE II model, leaked in its Verizon version. Also dubbed LG VS930, this handset was leaked in pictures and specs and supposedly it will debut on July 13th if our information is correct.

LG Spectrum aka VS920 is the predecessor of this phone and seeing a new unit would make sense considering this model reached the end of life status. Meanwhile, LG Optimus LTE II runs Android 4.0.4 and features a 1.5 GHz dual core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor (MSM8960). Also on board there’s a 4.7 inch True HD IPS display with a 720p resolution and other specs include 16GB of storage, global radio support (GSM/UMTS/CDMA/LTE) and NFC, with programmable tags.

It’s also very possible that the name of the phone will change to something like LG Spectrum 2, if the branding is kept. Although some of you may think this model has 2GB of RAM, it actually has 1GB of RAM and it also incorporates an 8 megapixel camera. Extra details can be found in the service manual here.

iPhone 5 Engineering Sample Unveils Redesigned Case

Posted: 11 Jul 2012 03:54 AM PDT

And here we are, with yet another leak of the iPhone 5, this time pictured as an engineering sample, straight from China. The new device is slightly taller, a bit thinner and about the same width as the current iPhone. A trusted source form the Apple supply chain sent the images of the metal iPhone 5 design sample.

It’s merely a black of metal that is still useful to reveal the size of the handset, the placement of the antenna and ports, plus some other design aspects. The iPhone 5 is the first major iPhone design change since the iPhone 4 back in 2010. The new smartphone will follow the iPhone 4S general design language, but the major change will be the larger display, taller case and smaller bezel. However, this won’t get a giant phone like the Galaxy S III, but rather a 4+ inch unit, maybe even smaller than 4.3 inches.

The rear camera is still at the back top left back of the phone and the camera lens cutout seems to be about the same size as the one on the iPhone 4S. Also in the mix there’s a rear facing microphone set between the camera and flash. This mic will be used for video recording and noise reduction, that will improve call quality. The iPhone 5 is rumored to come with a metal back and while this fully metal engineering sample doesn’t quite detail that, it shows two different sections of the back, most likely made from different materials.

So, are you excited about the iPhone 5?

Sony Xperia J Preparing for Release

Posted: 11 Jul 2012 02:55 AM PDT

Sony has had a very busy year, releasing about a dozen of new phones or so and now we learn about yet another new model, the Xperia J. This model is also known under the codename ST26 and it was leaked by the Indonesian IT ministry.

The handset’s benchmark was also leaked recently, giving away some of its specs. Don’t expect a major high end model here, but rather a midrange Android 4.0.4 smartphone. The leaked pictures from here are provided by IT168, that has a reputation of posted unreleased devices’ shots. The thing that you’ll notice immediately is that the phone lacks that famous round green logo, specific to the latest Sony/Sony Ericsson devices. It’s the “liquid energy” logo, that for some reason got misplaced.

Anyway, you should know that the Sony Xperia J is a midrange Android phone, with a single core 1 GHz processor, a touchscreen of unknown diagonal size and support for a 480 x 854 pixel resolution. No idea on when this model will launch or any price, but below $250 is a safe bet.
