iPhone 5 CPU Could be a Quad Core Exynos?! Also, We Have News on Quad Core Qualcomm Chips! (Video)

Posted: 05 Jul 2012 12:42 PM PDT

Well, Samsung and Apple may have entered a new round of courtroom brawl, but they seem to need each other more than anyone thinks. There’s a fresh rumor going round saying that the iPhone 5 may actually feature a quad core CPU of Exynos origin. Last I heard, Apple A6 was the CPU of choice, with 4 cores and made by TSMC.

Now it appears that Samsung will produce the A6 and base it on a modified quad core Exynos 4 series chipset. That one is already running on the international Samsung Galaxy S III. So, this means that sooner or later there will be a 32nm HKMG ticker made for iPhone 5 in the Samsung factory in Texas. In other news, there’s something cooking at Qualcomm too, with a quad core CPU also coming from them, one demoed in the video below.

I’m talking about its quad core APQ8064A chipset, a true beast, that not only integrates multimode LTE radio, but is also built on the 28nm process. And to top that there’s also an Adreno 320 GPU in the mix, ready to provide graphics that would smash the Nintendo 3DS and PS Vita easily, or so I should hope. Imagine this on board of the HTC One XXL, the rumored 5 inch Galaxy Note rival and you have a perfect idea why consoles are going bankrupt.

Nokia N9 PR1.3 Update Brings Twitter, Mail, Facebook Enhancements, More

Posted: 05 Jul 2012 12:29 PM PDT

Nokia’s N9 was one of the most loved phones of 2011 and for me it was the best phone of last year, but that’s another discussion. Anyway I’m here to let you know that the Meego handset has just received an update to PR1.3, that brings “over 1,000 quality improvements” to functions like Twitter, Mail and Facebook, for example.

The improvements are mostly focused on problems in network and connectivity, that are now fixed, but the app modifications are also pretty interesting. The Twitter app runs much faster, according to users who tried the handset with the update on. Streaming updates so the new messages was introduced this time and if you want more data, sadly all we have are scraps or other people’s experiences, since Nokia didn’t bother to publish an official changelog for the 40.2012.21-3 update.

Anyway here’s what the people are saying it’s improved:

- better video decoding
- smoother UI
- wireless networks found faster
- fixed GNOME bug
- compatibility fix for Xbox 360
- better NFC support
- security hole Inception 0.1 fixed

That’s about it!

Motorola Dinara Becomes Real, as Moto Atrix HD for AT&T; Specs Here!

Posted: 05 Jul 2012 12:52 AM PDT

After a long period of speculations and rumors about a certain Motorola Dinara, now the device is reality as the Motorola Atrix HD coming to AT&T. Last month a leaked press shot of the device hit the web and now there’s an official Motorola landing page with all the details one needs about the device.

This unit keeps the Motorola design language applied to the latest RAZRs and also brings a carbon fiber back and a small chin at the top where the camera is placed. The handset runs a customized Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and features a 4.5 inch HD ColobBoost display, is resilient to splashes and probably dust as well. Motorola Atrix HD uses an 8 megapixel rear camera, 1.3 megapixel front shooter and its chassis is a mere 8.4 mm in thickness.

It also has a pretty promising 1780 mAh battery, 1GB of RAM, 8 GB of storage, as well as a microSD card slot. At the core of the smartphone there’s a 1.5 GHz dual core processor of unknown origin. It may be a TI OMAP or it may be a Qualcomm Snapdragon, if you ask me. No info when this baby will be released, but we’ll get back to you on that, maybe with a price tag too.
