64 GB Samsung Galaxy S III is MIA?!

Posted: 18 Jul 2012 01:36 AM PDT

Back in May when Samsung Galaxy S III was announced, there was a 64GB version to follow the 16GB and 32GB ones. The one with more storage was supposed to come a bit later and we haven’t heard anything since. Supposedly Samsung has cancelled those plans for unknown reasons, so the 64GB Galaxy S III is MIA now.

Taking into account the fact that analysts are already saying that the Samsung Galaxy S III has surpassed the iPhone success, it’s important to provide customers with a variety of models to choose from. The thing here is that there are costs associated with a new model, with money paid for logistics of tracking stocks independently from the other versions. So, Samsung decided it wasn’t worth the cost to add some more flash memory, that they’re actually producing, if I’m not mistaking.

Of course, seeing that the Galaxy S III actually has a microSD card slot, it doesn’t matter that much that it doesn’t have an extra 32GB of internal storage. HTC One X has to do without a microSD card slot and I don’t see anyone complaining. Of course, cancellation rumors could be wrong, so take this matter with a grain of salt.

Oppo Finder, World’s Thinnest Smartphone Also Works as a Hammer, Pounds Nails (Video)

The Oppo Finder reached fame when it was declared the world’s thinnest smartphone, a title that’s usually snatched in about two months after there’s a new winner. There was a time when the Xperia Arc was the thinnest, then the Motorola Droid RAZR, then some Fujitsu Arrows phone, after that a Huawei model (Ascend P1 S) and now the Oppo Finder, at 6.65 mm in thickness.

In the video below you’ll see the Chinese smartphone subjected to a nail stress test. One would think that such a thin device is actually pretty fragile, but that’s not the case here. The device managed to pound some nails into a 2×4 board without cracking, being scratched or dented. Meanwhile I’d like to remind you that there’s yet another contender to the title of thinnest smartphone, the ZTE Athena, beating the Oppo by around 0.03mm. Anyway, the Oppo Finder is available right now in China for $393.

It packs a 4.3 inch Super AMOLED Plus display, a dual core A15 processor and 1GB of RAM. There’s also 16 GB of storage, an 8 megapixel camera with 1080p video capture and a 1.3 megapixel camera with 720p capture. This anorexic handset runs Android 4.0 ICS.
