Video: New stunning video from topolino70 with production level Nokia 808 PureView

We’ve been championing the works of   since the N8 and it’s no surprise why we do because his work on these Nokia imaging devices are stunning!

Check out his latest work on a production level Nokia 808 PureView (hence why his first amazing clips with the 808 disappeared because they weren’t quite yet final 808s).

I love the slow glide from 1:22. I feel like I’m watching a movie or a quality series like Game of Thrones (Come on Season 3!!!)

Just yesterday I finally got a factory line version of Nokia 808 Pureview to my hands! Great! I shot so many shots during two days at summer cottage. So here’s a little glimpse to what I have been shooting. The rest comes later. I hope you’ll enjoy.

All video clips shot using only Nokia 808 Pureview and tripod. All other clips are untouched except the second last. I added a little contrast and warmer hue to it. It would have needed even more warmer hue.

Do you know any other guys we should paying attention to regarding their work on Nokia camera phones? Let us know :) .

Lumiappaday #256: London 2012 demoed on the Nokia Lumia 900

Posted: 28 Jul 2012 10:47 AM PDT

The games have begun! What have you been keeping an eye on?

This is another 2012 app focused on the results though it is quite jam packed with other information too. As well as sports results you can look at athlete info and the medals tally.

It’s supposedly the official one hence the blaring sponsor in the app. It’s a little slow and unresponsive at times, possibly due to data downloads. Still, not something nice to experience when you’re used to everything being fluid.

Nokia Maps London 2012 Olympics

Posted: 28 Jul 2012 03:00 AM PDT

Did you guys watch the Olympics Opening Ceremony last night? I must admit I was expecting to be thoroughly disappointed due to the spectacular show Beijing, China provided in 2008. I’m glad it turned out really well. Fantastic in fact. People are still talking about it today. London didn’t try to out do China. They didn’t try to copy or catch up. London 2012 played to its strengths. Unique history, unique personalities, British music and the British sense of humour. I loved the Queen jumping out of the helicopter with James bond, Mr Bean in the orchestra, the copper petals from each country coming together as a flower and then joining as the cauldron. Team GB were brilliant in their own unique way. For some reason of course, I’m relating this to Nokia who may not win by trying to beat the competition by copying them or by going by their rules on how to win. Nokia can still be successul in their own way by playing to Nokia’s strengths.

One of those main strengths is Nokia’s location platform. Here’s Nokia Maps guide for the Olympics ceremony.

Weekend Read: Leak: Nokia Phi, Nokia Dogphone, Lumia 908, Juggernaut Alpha?

Posted: 28 Jul 2012 02:05 AM PDT

We haven’t covered these new fangled Nokia names before but we thought you might as well hear about them in case you’ve missed it. These have appeared in a few benchmark apps and now on occasional gamer where a phone’s identity appears in their stats.

First up:

>>The Juggernaut Alpha, second time this device is spotted randomly, first it was in the benchmarks of WPBench. On this occasion it got spotted on Occasional Gamer’s stats.Their is no confirmation that this device is from Nokia.

Second:

>>Nokia Dogphone, again this device was in the stats of occasional gamer and it was tested eight times.Name “Dogphone” does not make any sense in what kind of the device is tested whether commercial or developer.

Third:

Nokia Lumia 908, there is no previous background rumor details about this device except in the occasional gamer’s stats.Looks like this device is in initial phase of the testing as count is only ’1′ in the stats.

Finally:

Nokia Phi, It’s second time this device’s reference has emerged previouly in benchmarks test of WPBench.

Definitely there would be some questions about ‘Nokia P4301′, the model number doesn’t indicates that this one is really a Nokia it seems to be a LG device named wrongly, for ex: other phones are also there in stats which are named wrongly like ‘NOKIA LG E-900′.“So no confusion, great combination”.

cheers everyone for the tip.

MNB RG: July sees great Finland Lumia growth in StatCounter

Posted: 28 Jul 2012 01:58 AM PDT

This is Janne’s latest heads up, following the progress of Lumia in Finland with statcounter. Just to repeat again, statcounter is an estimate of market share through browser usage on a particular OS of all current handsets in use not just those sold in a particular time frame.

As we’ve been wondering what the Windows Phone 8 effect will be on Lumia’s trajectory after the late June announcement, at least in Finnish StatCounter stats July, with a few days left still, may be turning out to be the biggest growth month for Lumia ever – now matching in monthly averages even the February Lumia launch month (2.17%. growth in July so far vs. 2.18%. growth in February) and still on the rise. It would seem that the launch of Lumia 610 and Lumia 900 in late May have ignited some summer-lasting fires and WP8 Osbourne effect isn’t there yet (?).

The monthly average for installed (mobile Internet use) base for Windows Phone (aka Lumia in the case of Finland), to the extent StatCounter can be used to guess such figures, now sits at 11.52%, while the daily averages hover at 13% – almost 15% and have exceeded Symbian on multiple days. The gains seem to come mostly from Symbian and secondarily from iOS. Android has seen some losses after Lumia’s launch, but seems to have rebounded to a somewhat of a flat line.

http://gs.statcounter.com/#mobile_os-FI-weekly-201220-201229

Trend of growth is not as large as Finland in other places but it’s still nice to see. Growth wise, from June to July, UK at, France at 29.8%, 17.6% UK, 18.6% USA, 27.3% Germany, Italy 66.0%, 12.5% China. Looking at the change of % growth of the past 6 month, WP is on a positive trend. Slow but steady.

For Nokia, it is not even 1 year yet with Lumia, and given the current challenges of the platform and the difficulties externally through super strong competition this looks to be a moderately decent performance.

It’ll be very tense until the Nokia Lumia with WP8 arrive.

Cheers Janne for the tip.
