Windows Phone 8 Device Preorders Starting on October 21st Supposedly

Posted: 10 Oct 2012 01:21 PM PDT

There are fresh reports on the interwebs saying that consumers in USA may only have to wait about 11 days to get their hands on a fresh Windows Phone 8 device. Rumor has it that on October 21st the devices will start shipping, which is actually quite close to the release of Windows 8 tablets on October 26th.

The Windows Phone 8 newcomers include the likes of Nokia Lumia 920 and HTC 8X, plus the Samsung Ativ S and a bunch of midrange phones like the HTC 8S and Nokia Lumia 820. The general idea is that Microsoft is expected to kick off WP8 launches on October 29th, but it would be nice if they would do that earlier. Preordering is expected on AT&T, that will have the Lumia 920 exclusively, together with the HTC 8X and the Samsung Ativ Smart PC and ASUS Vivo Windows 8 tablets.

This will be a big turning point for both Nokia and Microsoft, all their future and expectations related to the telecom world are linked to Windows Phone 8. Samsung and HTC have Android to fall back one, but Nokia’s plan B is pretty much a mystery and quite unsure right now. Will they manage to score big sales, or at least decent ones?

Having the same features of the design and the Nature TouchWiz UX found on the flagship model, the Galaxy S III Mini smartphone is a cost-friendly device. It has a 4-inch display at a resolution of 800×480 of the AMOLED variety. It is powered by a dual-core CPU and it has a 5 MP camera with flash on the back and a VGA  front image sensor. 1 GB of RAM should suffice for the memory hungry TouchWiz interface and apps. There are 16 GB of internal storage with no word about the possibility of adding an SD card.

Connectivity wize you get Wi-Fi N, Bluetooth 4.0 and HSPA support. The operating system is Android 4.1 “Jelly Bean”. According to the sources, the device will be priced arround 399 euros. We expect details about availability to be released very soon.

LG Nexus Leaks Again, This Time in Two New Pictures; Glossy Back Confirmed

Posted: 10 Oct 2012 02:05 AM PDT

Over the past days we’ve had quite a bit of leakage concerning the upcoming Nexus Phone from Google and its partner this time around, LG. Supposed to be a retooled version of the LG Optimus G, the handset appeared in some photos yesterday and today it gets pictured again, this time in clearer shots.

Also known as LG-E960, LG Nexus showed up this time on the XDA forums and apparently it has a glossy back side with an interesting texture. The back plate is actually a bit similar to the back of Sprint’s LG Optimus G version, shown at CTIA MobileCON. The front resembles both the Galaxy Nexus and the LG Optimus LTE, but this time with a chrome-style bezel and different speaker grille. The home screen and on screen buttons all look like Nexus material and as far as specs go, the XDA poster also mentioned a list.

The list includes a quad core ARMv7 1.5 GHz processor, 2 GB of RAM, 8 GB of storage, sadly no SD slot and the Adreno 320 GPU. The OS is mentioned as JellyBeanMR1 and there’s also an 8 megapixel camera and a screen with a 768 x 1184 pixel resolution. This fits previous leaks, but I have to say the internal storage is a huge bummer, especially in lack of expandable memory. In case the strange resolution puzzles you, it’s caused by the on screen buttons that eat up some space. The diagonal should be somewhere around 4.7 inches here.
