HTC J Butterfly Gets Its First Promotional Clip Today (Video)

Posted: 17 Oct 2012 12:04 PM PDT

HTC J Butterfly is a quad core phablet with a 5 inch display, that sports a 1080p resolution and it was announced today by Japanese carrier KDDI. We’re dealing with a Full HD phablet with a Super LCD3 screen and packing a quad core Snapdragon S4 Pro CPU, that gets promoed in the video below.

I can see here that there’s also Beats Audio technology on board, as well as the ability to do video and photo capture at the same time. The new screen has a pixel density of 440 ppi, that’s very impressive even by modern standards. The convex shape also makes the device stand out from the crowd of upcoming hotties, like the LG Optimus G and ASUS Padfone 2. They do share the same 1.5 GHz processor, but this model has a superior screen, one that officially starts the craze of 1080p phone screens.

Last year HTC had one of the first phones with a 720p screen after the Galaxy Nexus, the HTC Rezound model, that actually didn’t make the impact it should have. This time I think HTC may have a hit on its hands and it’s strange they decided to leave a stylus out this time, so technically this is more of a 5 inch phone than a phablet.

Alltel Wireless has a cool offer coming this Thursday, as they’ll start selling the new Alcatel One Touch Ultra 960C handset. We’re dealing with an ultra thin, lightweight device, packing a 4.3 inch capacitive screen and debuting on October 18th in Alltel stores.

The phone packs a 1.4 GHz processor and also comes with a 5 megapixel camera with autofocus and 720p HD capture. The built in camera supports touch focus and image stabilization and there’s also a front facing camera on board, with support for video calls. The OS on board is the older Android 2.3 Gingerbread and there’s also DLNA support on board, according to Alltel. The phone has preinstalled Twitter and Facebook, for a better social networking experience.

Also preinstalled we find a document viewer and editor, with support for Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, as well as Adobe PDF. HTC J Butterfly, the First Phone With a 1080p Display, 5 Inch Diagonal; Unveiled by KDDI

Posted: 17 Oct 2012 12:57 AM PDT

The best and newest technologies come from Japan, that’s a fact and this HTC phone is no exception. HTC J Butterfly (HTL21) was just unveiled by local carrier KDDI, making it the very first 1080p display device, with a 5 inch diagonal. Rumors about a 5 inch phablet for Verizon have been going on for some time now, ever since July, but it appears that the Japanese carriers are more prepared to make this debut.

HTC J Butterfly is an Android 4.1 Jelly Bean device with a 440 ppi pixel density and a Super LCD 3 panel, that frankly I didn’t even know existed. Inside we’ve got a quad core 1.5 GHz AP8064 processor, meaning it’s a Snapdragon S4 chipset. At the back there’s an 8 megapixel camera, that does 1080p video capture, accompanied by a 2.1 megapixel front shooter. Other specs include 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of storage, a microSDHC expansion slot, WiFi, Bluetoth 4.0, NFC, LTE and CDMA/GSM/UMTS/GPRS.

Everything is packed inside a device that weighs 140 grams and it’s also waterproof, which is pretty cool. The handset is rated at IPX5 and also involves a 2,020 mAh battery, that I hope can provide enough juice for the big screen and connectivity options. Looking forward to see a western version of this model now…
