Exclusive: Lumia 820 Coming to UK Nov. 2nd on Multiple Carriers

Posted: 25 Oct 2012 01:01 PM PDT

As October draws to a close we can prepare ourselves for a splash of color in our lives, our source has confirmed that the Lumia 820 will arrive on UK shores next Friday Nov. 2nd  (matching the Suspected US launch date for the 820 & 920); further more the 820 will NOT be exclusive to a single carrier, but instead will be available on “multiple Networks”.

A patterns seems to be emerging with the two devices, where the 820 is available on multiple networks, whilst the 920 will be tied down as an exclusive device; as is with At&t, Rogers Canada and suspectedly Everything Everywhere in the UK.

Video: Nokia – What is your favourite Karaoke Song?

Posted: 25 Oct 2012 12:53 PM PDT

Nokia’s got a fair lot of these Nokia Music videos going asking what music reminds you of this or that or what’s your favourite [topic of choice].

This time they’re asking what’s your favourite Karaoke Song. We all like a bit of Karaoke no? It’s not really about being able to sing really well, but joining in with friends and/or family and connecting with your favourite sing songs.

I’ve made a playlist on Spotify of tracks my mates and I would sing to now and again. It’s pretty fun. Not technically Karaoke but close enough. The last two songs played on that list was Fast Car [Tracey Chapman] and New Born [Muse]. It’s only about 134 tracks (8 hours) I might add a few of your suggestions.

I can see how good Nokia Music would be in situations where we just want a batch of music of a certain type. It gets annoying when I search on Spotify for new music and either no one knows what to search for or you have to keep searching after each song. Much easier with Nokia Music.

SMS update for some of the S^3 devices rolling out

Posted: 25 Oct 2012 08:25 AM PDT

I don’t recognize this update for S^3 devices properly but still happy that Nokia is watching on their abandoned child till now as those above screenshots are proof of it.

Update is named as ‘SMS update‘.It seems to be a normal bug fix as it solves the problem in sending the SMS’s to multiple recipients which occured in latest feature pack of Belle. The size of the fix is 538kb and you can check on your phone by going to SW update in settings, it might restart the phone also, if needed.

Video: Nokia Lumia 820 WP8 demo and sensitivity test vs iPhone 5.

Posted: 25 Oct 2012 08:23 AM PDT

A couple of Nokia Lumia 820 videos this time. We can see a short demo of WP8 as well as a screen sensitivity test.

I’ve just been trying on some gloves (for halloween costume, but more likely to be using one when winter comes) and got annoyed a bit that I couldn’t use the screen on my phone.

Notice in the screen sensitivity demo, the 820 performs as if there are no gloves. Pinch and zoom all still fine. Swiping with feather light touch all fine. This is something were it on an Apple device we would hear about non stop. It would be the next big thing which everyone would want. As it is from Nokia, I don’t think anyone will even know it’s there because they’re marketing peeps need to go back to pre-school.

Video: Nokia Lumia 920 Sunlight Readability test (vs SGSIII)

Posted: 25 Oct 2012 08:18 AM PDT

Here is a simulation of how the Nokia Lumia 920 would look outdoors should look in super bright sunlight.

It’s compared next to the SGSIII. It might be difficult to discern any significance when watching this kind of test from a video but we can definitely see more in the Lumia screen no?

Infographic: Gaming on Asha Devices

Posted: 25 Oct 2012 03:25 AM PDT

Nokia Conversation have published an interesting infographic showing exactly how much game consumption is going down on the Asha devices. Since the launch of the Asha range we’ve seen multiple partnerships grow between app developers and Nokia, promising to bring their games to Asha device; including the likes of Rovio, Gameloft, EA and many more.

"The Asha platform has established itself as a great ecosystem for partners to bring their newest and best games to those devices and we are seeing that momentum continue from key publishers,"

"Working with Nokia, EA was able to legitimise gaming on mobile platforms in these markets, and as an organisation bring new customers to their global franchises using innovative business models."

It would seem that most gaming on Nokia devices is coming from Asha devices (honestly I hardly play any games on my Lumia- besides wordament; but that’s just me).

"Although people are not paying premium prices for the games, where there is volume and casual gaming then that is the real sweet spot for Asha."

Nokia Moves New Offices to Chicago; 150 new Jobs + 100 More Location Service Hirings

Posted: 25 Oct 2012 02:10 AM PDT

Earlier this week Nokia announced a move for their “Mobile Xpress Internet services” division from Itasca (also in Illinois) to Chicago; merging with the Chicago office which is already Nokia’s largest office in North America (about 1,500 employees after the move). Nokia have also added 100 new job positions to it’s mapping/location services to help improve on their already stellar map performance.

“We’ve been perfecting digital maps for more than 15 years in the Chicago area,” said Ogi Redzic, vice president, traffic, at Nokia Location & Commerce. “To help achieve that, we’re actively recruiting for employees in Chicago.”

It’s always great to hear that Nokia is expanding rather than the usual news of cutbacks and layoffs (I know Chicago isn’t Finland.. but this is still good news). Regarding Chicago’s position in future Nokia developments and products, Chicago’s Mayor responded:

“We are making Chicago not only a center for technology, a center for research and development … in fact, the technology will now be developed, enhanced and shipped around the world to Nokia’s centers in the BRIC countries (Brazil, Russia, India and China) and other developing economies,”

My Dream Nokia #71: Carbon Fiber Nokia Lumia 940 concept

Posted: 24 Oct 2012 11:16 PM PDT

This is the Nokia Lumia 920, made from ‘Carbon’ (I’m guessing Carbon Fiber?).

It comes from a regular here at MNB and MDN, Edgar Mkrtchyan.

I like the minimal and even bezel. More screen space!

Quite a large battery, dual core 1.5GHz, 4.5″ screen (but since less bezel, possibly shorter than the 920) 12mp
