ASUS PadFone 2 Press Pictures Leak, ASUS CEO Shows Glimpse of the Device (Video)

Posted: 14 Oct 2012 07:35 AM PDT

We’re only two days away from the big ASUS event on October 16th, when the PadFone 2 will be unveiled in Milan and Taipei. Obviously, it’s time for leaks and they came via unofficial, but also official sources this time. We’ve got the Twitter account @evleaks, offering a glimpse into the official press pictures of the product and then the ASUS CEO showed a short hands on with the device in the video below.

The Twitter account has a good track record, having unveiled real pictures of the Nokia Lumia 820 and 920 before it was officially announced. ASUS PadFone 2 seems to keep most of the design of the first predecessor and it has a teardrop profile, plus an improved 13 megapixel camera and a bigger 4.7 inch display, probably with HD resolution. There’s also a front camera on board and what looks like a metallic edge. Capacitive buttons are placed below the screen and we haven’t yet figured out if the device runs Android Ice Cream Sandwich or Jelly Bean.

In the video below we also see some photo samples taken with the ASUS PadFone 2 and shown by the CEO. The PadFone Station tablet has also received a new design and it looks thinner and more elegant. Also, it replaces the hump at the back with a sliding tray, that leaves part of the device out in the open. We’re also expecting that this smartphone comes with a quad core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor and probably 2 GB of RAM. We’ll give you more info from Milan when the ASUS event debuts.

Huawei Ascend W1 Windows Phone 8 Device Leaks; Only Bezel Image for Now

Posted: 14 Oct 2012 01:24 AM PDT

Aside from the big ones, HTC, Samsung and Nokia, Microsoft may score a few more Windows Phone 8 models from other hardware partners, such as Acer, ZTE and even Huawei. Today we ran into a leaked bezel of the mysterious Huawei Ascend W1 handset, rumored to run WP8.

The Ascend W1 is speculated to be the first Windows Phone 8 device made by this company and meant to debut in China by the end of the current year or in 2013. Huawei was already pretty deep into the whole Android thing, with a very slim phone, a decent dual core phone and a quad core phone that was extremely delayed. We can’t tell much from the image here, but the design looks typical for a Windows Phone model.

The leak came via social networking site Sina Weibo and we tend to believe this is a real picture, not a fake. With Huawei also on board of the Windows Phone train, we wonder when it will be time for Sony to join it, especially since it had some leaks of its own on the WP front.

Alcatel One Touch View Windows Phone Device Branded TCL Horizon S606 in China

Posted: 14 Oct 2012 01:06 AM PDT

Alcatel One Touch View is a Windows Phone model that we found out about a few days ago and now it appears that it will also be released in China, but under a different moniker. Since the phone and actually all Alcatel phones are made by Chinese company TCL, it kind of makes sense that its branding will be applied locally.

Thus, the One Touch View gets the name TCL 606 Horizon in China. This is an entry level phone with Windows Phone 7.8 on board, a 4 inch WVGA display, a 1 GHz single core processor and a 5 megapixel camera at the back. There’s also a VGA front camera, 512 MB of RAM and 4 GB of storage. We don’t know exactly when the TCL S606 will hit China, but what’s sure is that this will happen before the year end.

The design of the device is actually kind of pretty, with the facade reminding me of the Samsung Omnia 7 and the back incorporating the camera with a little slope. I hope there’s a decent battery inside and maybe, with a bit of luck the case is not too plasticky.
