Lumia 920 Starring in At&t’s latest Commercial

Posted: 28 Oct 2012 12:17 PM PDT

Just now as I was watching the Bears game on Fox this popped up during the commercial break. It’s the first ever commercial starring the Lumia 920 (in White, Cyan and Black); interestingly there is no actual mention of the device itself, just an ad for At&ts 4G network.

Either way the 920 is looking gorgeous as always, just wondering why they didn’t show off the yellow version, after all it is the most eye-catching color.

Nokia Maps Powering Windows 8 Maps, Huge Boost for Nokia?

Posted: 28 Oct 2012 03:44 AM PDT

We’ve known for a while now that Nokia Maps will power  all the upcoming Windows Phone 8 devices, replacing Microsoft’s severely lacking Bing maps with what is possibly one of the best services out there. What I personally had never realized was that all of Microsoft’s mapping services are now powered by Nokia, most importantly the new Maps app in Windows 8. Windows 8 comes pre-installed with a default maps app “Maps” just like everything else in Windows 8 is clean, simple and easy to use.

As far as I know Google maps have always been the go-to-choice for pre-planning routes, which is understandable seeing how well it works; but the inclusion of a pre-installed app on the start screen of Windows 8 is sure to give Nokia maps a huge boost. Cutting down on the number of steps required to get your route by ditching the need for a browser, the directions themselves are simple clear and as usual beautiful:

Using Nokia maps as the default in WP8 is a huge boost in itself, but no phone OS can hope to be as popular as any version of Windows, meaning that Windows 8 is probably the largest service Nokia are powering at the current time, pretty cool right?

Leaked WP8 Image Shows Off 3rd party App set Live Wallpapers/Lock-Screens

Posted: 28 Oct 2012 02:47 AM PDT

What you’re looking at above is the new Windows Phone 8 lockscreen (ignore the old Windows button); previously when the SDK was leaked we found the option to set custom 3rd party app notifications on the locks screen (bottom right corner is facebook in the image above). We’ve also heard rumors of a live Bing wallpaper, that could automatically change the phones wallpaper daily (similar to Bing Desktop- which is actually pretty cool). The image above leads us to believe that other applications, examples given are ESPN & USA today; would be able to change the wallpaper to give you related content at a glance. The usage of the lockscreen with ESPN to give you the current sport scores is an amazing idea, much more beautiful than sending you a notification about the score.

Nokia Sells Last Europe Based Factory; Salo, Finland

Posted: 28 Oct 2012 02:30 AM PDT

Following with Nokia’s strategy of cutting costs and moving manufacturing factories to Europe and South America, the Salo factory in Finland (announced to be shut down earlier this year) has now been officially sold to a drug manufacturing company. With it ends the era of Nokia phones stamped “made in Finland”; moving on to phones coming from Korea, Brazil, Russia and mostly China. Without mincing words this is a huge blow for Nokia’s Finnish pride, here in the Middle East phones made in Finland have a greater value to costumers, usually making them willing to pay up to $50 more than the same phone that’s made in China. Silver lining is there are no more factories left to close…
