Meanwhile users of the One X and One S are probably wondering if they are going to be left out as so many manufacturers seem to forget about the “old” devices as new models are released. Well, to put your suspicions at rest, HTC has officially announced that they are going to update the One X and One S to Jelly Bean. The update will also include a new version of HTC’s custom skin for Android called SENSE.

The update to Android 4.1.1 for the One X and One S will be available starting October. The new version of Android will bring improved performance, Google Now voice assistant, expandable notifications and many other new features.

Sharp Showcases 5 Inch Full HD Displays With 443 PPI at CEATEC 2012 (Video)

Posted: 02 Oct 2012 02:55 AM PDT

After September’s IFA 2012 and Nokia World 2012, now in October we have the CEATEC event, that included a showcasing from Sharp. The Japanese display maker showcased some new screen panels, with 1080p resolutions and 5 inch diagonals. These displays offer an incredibly good pixel density of 443 ppi and they’re only prototypes for now.

The mass production will start later this month and Sharp uses the thinnest GS Silicon technology in this case, reducing the layers between the LCD display and the user’s eyes. Viewing angles are quoted as impressive. It appears that the new screens use TFTs produced with continuous grain silicon instead of the famous IGZO transistor technology. If 442 ppi doesn’t impress you, you should know that the iPhone’s Retina Display only offers 326 ppi. Sharp has previously reached 498 ppi on a 6.1 inch IGZO prototype display in the past, but that’s not for commercial release

The CG silicon technology offers faster response times and higher resolutions. I expect the new 5 inch displays to make it to future smartphones and phablets, maybe the 2012 year end quad core Snadpragon S4 handsets with Android Key Lime Pie…

HTC One X+ Now Official, Runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean on Tegra 3 1.7 GHz CPU

Posted: 02 Oct 2012 02:17 AM PDT

After a long period of speculation, HTC One X+ is now finally official and it comes with the same specs that we already saw leaking online. I’m talking about a 1.7 GHz quad core Nvidia Tegra 3 AP37 processor, 64 GB of storage and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean as the OS. One X+ combines the One X trademark design with the latest Android and an improved CPU, plus a better battery.

The handset uses a 2100 mAh battery, that provides up to 50% more battery life (6 hours) compared to the predecessor. Android 4.1 runs with HTC Sense 4+ UI on top, that comes with the freshly launched Auto Portrait mode, that relies on the front camera and helps the user capture his mug in high quality. There’s a feature here that intuitively captures the human face from different angles and retouches the skin and eyes. Another camera function is Sightseeing Mode, that’s the shortest way to activate image capture, without needing to unlock the screen and instantly launching the camera.

The gallery also gets two new display modes for photos and videos, as they’re arranged by place and time of capture. HTC Sense 4+ offers a feature called Tap and Go, that allows you to connect or disconnect Beats speakers with a single touch. The handset measures 8.9 mm in thickness, weighs 135 grams and packs a 4.7 inch Super LCD 2 touchscreen display with a 720 p resolution and Gorilla Glass 2 protection. Other features include NFC, Bluetooth 4.0, WiFi, DLNA, 32 or 64 GB of storage, 1 GB of RAM and an 8 megapixel camera.

Said camera offers autofocus, LED flash, BSI sensor, F2.0 diaphragm, 28 mm optics and 1080p video capture. The smartphone uses a microSIM card and it also comes with GPS. HTC One X+ will debut in Europe and Asia starting with October, while USA will get a later launch date.
