Nokia Lumia 610 Available in China for Half the Price of the Lumia 800 Posted: 07 May 2012 03:51 PM PDT After seeing people queuing in China for the Lumia 800C about a month ago, now it appears that another Nokia Windows Phone unit has entered the country. I’m talking about the lower end Nokia Lumia 610, available now in China for half the price of the Lumia 800C. The device costs around $269 and this is an entry level smartphone we’re talking about here. Nokia Lumia 610 features Windows Phone 7.5, a 3.7 inch WVGA Gorilla Glass display, WiFi, GPS, a 5 megapixel camera, an 800 MHz processor and 256MB of RAM. There’s also 8GB of storage on board and a plasticky case that’s shown in the pictures embedded into the article. Nokia previously said that they hope to sell 4 million Lumia 610 smartphones this year and seeing that the price is so low, they could do it. However, when I look to the Android side, I find very decent phones at $180 or so, so Nokia doesn’t quite offer a very cheap alternative here. For $200 you can get a very good Android smartphone actually, with midrange specs.. What does Lumia 610 have against that? Related posts: |
Apple Looking to Buy iPhone5.com Domain Posted: 07 May 2012 11:17 AM PDT Although everyone is waiting for Apple to come up with a name such as “The New iPhone” for their new handset, the Cupertino giant is looking to secure the iPhone5.com domain right now. And they’re doing that for good reason, considering they don’t even own the iPad.com domain. Can you believe it? Apple filed a claim with the World Intellectual Property Organization in order to get this domain name. It’s very likely that they’ll get their desired domain, as they did many times before. Right now, the site is a forum with rumors related to the future version of the iPhone. The Cupertino giant also owns domains related to yet unreleased products, including some previously part of a pornography network, believe it or not. The iPhone4s.com domain was purchased weeks after the phone was unveiled and the iPhone4.com wasn’t even Apple property until a year after the product was first shipped. iPhone6.com and iPhone7.com are also not currently owned by Apple, but they might start thinking about it in the next year or two. Odds are very little that the next Apple handset will be called iPhone 5 and since the company surprised us with “The New iPad”, they might do the same with the “New iPhone”. What do you think? Motorola Motogo is a Cheap Candybar Phone With Portrait QWERTY Keyboard Posted: 07 May 2012 10:25 AM PDT Motorola Mobility just introduced on the Brazilian market the new mobile phone MOTOGO, a monoblock format handset with a portrait QWERTY keyboard and that nice old central button. It reminds me of older Nokia devices, as it’s probably used to go left and right, up and down in the menus. This model supports 3G and WiFi connectivity, it has GPS navigation and Google service. There’s also a separate search button here, that allows MOTOGO users to enjoy the full search features of Google. The handset will cost around $170 in Brazil and you should know that this model also comes with 7.2 Mbps HSDPA connectivity, a 2.2 inch TFT 320 x 240 pixel display and a 2 megapixel camera with fixed focus. The handset weighs 100 grams and has an FM radio too. And finally, this model has a microSD card slot, 50MB of memory and support for WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1, microUSB and GPS. The battery inside is a 910 mAh unit and I don’t expect a very long life out of it, to be honest. I certainly hope that Motorola will also deliver higher end handsets in the near future, not only low end models like this one. Related posts: |
HTC Droid Incredible 4G LTE Now Official on Verizon Posted: 07 May 2012 09:30 AM PDT Verizon and HTC have just unveiled officially the HTC Droid Incredible 4G LTE handset, the latest Android smartphone to reach the carrier. We’re dealing here with a model that should belong to the One series, since it borrows many design elements. Some people even say it’s a combo between the HTC One X and the One S model. HTC Droid Incredible 4G LTE comes with a 4 inch qHD Super LCD display with Gorilla Glass protection and an 8 megapixel camera at the back, with 1080p HD video recording. Inside we find the 1.2 GHz dual core Snapdragon S4 processor that powers both the HTC One S and the US One X (One XL). HTC Sense 4.0 is applied on top of Android 4.0 ICS in case you’re wondering. Overall, you can consider this the Verizon version of the HTC One S if you want, with some design tweaks. Other specs include 8GB of storage, 1GB of RAM, a microSD card slot, LTE connectivity and CDMA, plus WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0 and NFC. There’s also HDMI out via the micro USB port with MHL support. As marked on the lower back side of the device, there’s Beats Audio technology to be found here and a front facing VGA camera fills the specs list. The usual list of sensors is also present. There’s a G Sensor, digital compass and proximity sensor. Also under the hood there’s a 1700 mAh Li-Ion removable battery, that’s certainly a switch from the regular One S. Related posts: |
Nokia Confirms Purple Hue Screen Issue for Lumia 900, Preparing Fix Posted: 07 May 2012 01:50 AM PDT We’ve heard of battery problems on the Nokia Lumia 800, but nothing about a major issue on the Lumia 900. Well, apparently there is one, that involves a purple hue screen issue and Nokia even confirmed it and promised a fix through a future update. Nokia support confirmed via Twitter the problem, saying they’ve identified the issue occuring on some models. In order to find it you simply need to disable automatic brightness and turn the screen down to low in Settings. When doing that the grays on your screen will look purple all over the OS. The guys of wpcentral made a list of all the problems that their readers found when using the Lumia 900 and they seem to include the inactive camera button that won’t wake the phone, vibrate feature rattling, inline remote on headset issue and the low volume being actually high. All of the problems were passed on to the Nokia engineers, that are working on them. Just so you get an idea of how bad the purple hue thing is, 3 corporate AT&T stores in Wisconsin had 12 out of 12 phones with the problem. AT&T representatives knew nothing about it, sadly. Could it be a more spread problem than we thought? Hopefully it’s just a software issue, corrected by an update… Related posts: |
