Google Patents Google Glass Technology, Stays Away From Potential Future Lawsuits Posted: 23 May 2012 04:59 PM PDT Google Project Glass has been talked about a lot over the past month and insiders continue to say we’ll actually have a real product by the end of the year. Well, now Google made sure that the product won’t be accompanied by controversy, so they patented the technology behind it. Google received no less than 4 patents for this invention. They came from USPTO and are all related to Google Glass, so the Mountain View giant can claim ownership of the design of the right side of the device, the one with the camera that drops down over the eye. That’s also the area with the main electronic components. Google also patented a nose pad sensor that relies on technology that identifies when the user’s nose is in contact with it. Another patent addresses the display showing range and direction of ambient sounds. And finally, the search engine giant patented the use of each eye piece as a separate display. The illustration of the patent demoes a map in one eye and navigation in the other. There are other parts that make out the Google Glass, but this is merely the beginning and we’re far from the complete product. Related posts: |
Microsoft Forces You to Upgrade to Windows Phone 7.5 to Continue Using Marketplace Posted: 23 May 2012 04:29 PM PDT Do you like downloading apps from Windows Phone Marketplace? Well, you’re not allowed to anymore, if you don’t have Windows Phone 7.5 installed. Yes, I’m looking at you lazy folks who bought a WP7 device early and didn’t bother to update it to Mango OS. Microsoft made the announcement early this week, meaning that if you don’t update you can’t get apps. The requirement applies to both the phone and web Marketplace entries. Anyway that’s not much of a problem, since most WP devices already run Mango, launched last fall and users had enough time to get accustomed to the OS and update to it. If you do run WP7 and try to download or update apps from the Marketplace, you’ll get an error message. So, if you encounter that it’s only logical that a Windows Phone 7.5 update will remove it. Even if you don’t use the Marketplace, the update is still recommended, because it brings hundreds of improvements. The multitasking is the first one that comes to mind, but there are tons more. This restriction makes me wonder if some day, Windows Phone 8 devices will be the only ones to access the Marketplace and those updated to that OS as well, while WP7.5 Mango users will be left in the dark… Related posts: |
HTC Android 4.0 Full Update List Available Posted: 23 May 2012 03:39 PM PDT After Motorola published a detailed list of the devices prone for Android 4.0 updates and the dates they’re getting the software, it’s HTC’s turn to do so. They’ve just posted an update list for the masses and you can see it below in full detail. Seventeen devices have been privileged to get the software, apparently. August is the latest time area to get the update, for models such as the Droid Incredible 2 for example, but that and many more are shown in the list below. All the Sensation models are mentioned here and luckily even the less appreciated 3D model HTC EVO 3D gets the latest software. HTC Rhyme also stuns by getting the update, although it seemed more of a single core phone for ladies without too much to aspire to… And here’s the list now:
Hopefully your phone is on the list, since Android 4.0 ICS is supposed to bring the usual UI modifications, better stability and battery and a more efficient multitasking. Expect dates to be pushed at least once, or so says my gut feeling. Related posts: |
OmniVision 16 Megapixel Phone Camera New Sensor Provides 4K Resolution Support Posted: 23 May 2012 03:19 PM PDT OmniVision announced this week two new smartphone camera chips: OV16820 and OV16825, that support up to 16 megapixels and are able to do video capture at a 4k resolution. Also known as quad full HD, this capture is supported with 60 fps option on these sensors. The point and shoot abilities have been thus surpassed and the cameraphones will once again get better, digging deeper into the whole of the entire budget camera segment. The new sensors are built on the high performance 1.34 micron OmniBSI-2 pixel architecture and support emerging standards in high resolution video recording for digital still and video camera markets. The 1/2.3 inch sensors will operate in full resolution at 4608 x 3456 when filming at 30 fps and 4K2K (3840 x 2160) at 60 fps. When it comes to 1080p video you get 60 fps with extra pixels for electronic image stabilization. Full resolution 16MP burst photography is supported as well, as well as RAW scaling, adequate frame rate, exposure, gain and cropping are programmable through the serial camera control bus interface. Now let’s see what CPUs will power devices with such cameras… Related posts: |
4.1 Inch New iPod Touch Panel Leaks, Same as the One of New iPhone? Posted: 23 May 2012 02:59 AM PDT Yesterday we heard that the new iPhone was going to be a 3.9 inch device with a 1136 x 640 pixel resolution and today it appears that the specs have changed again. This time it’s on account of MacRumors receiving a picture of a screen that’s supposed to go on the new iPod touch and sports a 4.1 inch diagonal. Well, if this is really the next iPod touch, then the new iPhone will have a similar design. Obviously the photo could be doctored, like it happened so many times before, but it could still be real. Anyway between 3.9 inches and 4.1 I’m sure we have the iPhone 5 diagonal pretty much figured out. All that’s left to do is determine what CPU lies inside and how much RAM, internal memory and megapixels we’re going to get this time. Also mark the date June 11th in your calendars, since that’s when WWDC 2012 kicks off and Apple will be showcasing iOS 6.0, the platform you’ll be running on the next iPhone. Rumors say we might see a new mapping application in iOS 6.0 and maybe it the devs get hold of it, they can dissect it and figure out the resolution of the new iPhone. So, which theory do you find more realistic? The one about the 3.9 inch iPhone with 1136 x 640 resolution or the 4.1 incher and why? Related posts: |
