Galaxy SIII Dropbox app now offers 48GB Free space to all! Posted: 29 May 2012 12:26 PM PDT You might already know, as so with the HTC One series of devices, where you would get 25GB of free Dropbox space for two years, Samsung is offering in their flagship device, the Galaxy SIII, 50GB of Dropbox space, also for two years. As was the case with HTC, where the apk was eventually ported to other devices that would benefit from the free Dropbox space, this time the Galaxy SIII got the same treatment and the app was ported by the guys at XDA Developers, to work with most Android devices, offering the huge amount of space. This time though it will not be so easy as just installing an apk. You need to have a rooted device, uninstall any version of Dropbox you might have installed, download the zip with the app from the Galaxy SIII and flash it using ClockworkMod Recovery. Let me remind you that the Dropbox Team eventually managed to remove the free that most got after using the HTC apk trick. If they will do it again in this case, I honestly don’t know. Follow the link to the source to download the zip. Related posts: |
Alcatel OT986 is Now Official, Features 4.5 Inch HD Screen, Android 4.0 ICS Posted: 29 May 2012 12:04 PM PDT Alcatel is finally dipping into the pool of higher end smartphones, with a new Android 4.0 model called OT986. Alcatel OT986 is a dual core device, but that shouldn’t surprise anyone, since even Huawei is producing quad core handsets. Here’s what the phone looks like: Alcatel OT986 is also known as the TCL S900, so that’s how it will be sold on the Chinese market. This Android 4.0 smartphone features a 4.5 inch 720p screen (IPS), a dual core TI OMAP 4460 processor at 1.5 GHz and a 5 megapixel camera at the rear, with LED flash. At the front we have a 2 megapixel camera and other specs include 1GB of RAM, 8GB of storage and HSPA+ support. The gadget measures 9.75mm and it will come with Android 4.0 ICS preinstalled, which is always a welcome feature. Alcatel also promised a cheaper version of the phone, with dual core 1.2 GHz processor and 4GB of built in storage. Not sure what the final name of this dumbed down phone will be. Notice how the device doesn’t feature physical capacitive Android buttons below the display, a feat that’s associated to few phones with Android 4.0 nowadays. This device will cost about $315 or 252 euros, if you want exchange rates, at least in the Chinese version. Related posts: |
Explay Crystal, a Feature Phone With Transparent Color Display Posted: 29 May 2012 04:51 AM PDT Explay Crystal is certainly not a surprise, since we’ve seen a transparent phone before, but the Sony Ericsson Xperia Pureness only had a monochrome display. Well, this model brings a color screen, a transparent one, that instantly makes me think of the prototype that NTT DoCoMo showcased not so long ago. There was also a model called Lenovo S800, a color display transparent phone released last year. So, what does this Explay Crystal have to offer, since it’s not a premiere? Well, it has a brighter and more vibrant color screen, at least when compared to the Lenovo unit. It goes for a pretty cheap price, $219, less than half the amount you spend on the S800. Explay Crystal is still merely a feature phone, so don’t expect smartphone functionality here. Explay Crystal is a dual SIM handset, with media player functions, Bluetooth 3.0 with A2DP and the usual features, such as contact list, basic camera and video playback. It will be on sale in Russia starting July 1st and I still want that futuristic transparent phone with tons of augmented reality, flexible body and good camera. Who can deliver that to me? Sharp Pantone 5 is an Android 4.0 Phone With a Radiation Detector Posted: 29 May 2012 03:34 AM PDT We’ve seen handsets of all shapes and sizes, models with huge displays, 2GB of RAM and even 41 megapixel cameras. However, it’s not every day that you hear about a phone with a radiation detector. That’s the case of the Sharp Pantone 5, an Android 4.0 handset with 8 color choices and the radiation scanner. This model is available with a 3.7 inch display and it’s offered by Japanese carrier Softbank. The device is able to sense between 0.005 and 9.99 µSv/h of radiation. Sharp describes the handset as non compliant with Japan standards right now, the handset has some other interesting features. These include the ability to report your location and radiation level to Facebook, for example. This product is most likely a Japan-only affair, with a 4 megapixel camera at the back, eight Pantone colors and 0.3MP front camera. Its screen supports a 854 x 480 pixel resolution and it will be both dustproof and waterproof. No price has been disclosed just yet, but I imagine it will be pretty high, since the radiation detector gear incorporated doesn’t come cheap, does it? Related posts: |
Samsung Galaxy S III Internationally Released Today! 28 Countries Get it Today! Posted: 29 May 2012 01:57 AM PDT Samsung Galaxy S III is the flagship quad core Exynos handset announced early this month in London and today is the big launch day, when it debuts in stores all over the world. It will come to the UK today, France as well, UAE, Saudi Arabia and Europe, plus the Middle East and Africa. We’re dealing with a simultaneous release in 28 countries, making this the most widely released device in Samsung history. In July the release area will cover 145 countries and around 296 operators all over the world for the Galaxy S III. Last I checked, the device had tremendous preorder numbers, something like 9 million and that only happened in a week or two after its announcement, so we finally have a player that’s able to perform close to Apple when it comes to orders. The debut of the phone is accompanied by a full month of touring in the big cities of the world, including Sydney, Australia, New Delhi, cities on China, USA, Japan, Korea and many ,ore. Samsung Galaxy S III is officially the most preordered Android phone on Vodafone UK so far and people have been queuing outside of stores in London to get the 4.8 inch smartphone. I remind you that this is a 720p Super AMOLED screen packing beast with a 1.4 GHz quad core Exynos 4 processor, 1GB of RAM, Android 4.0, 21 Mbps HSDPA, 8MP wide angel lens camera and a 2100 mAh battery. LG E970 Spotted in Benchmarks With Adreno 320 Graphics Posted: 29 May 2012 01:40 AM PDT LG is apparently preparing to introduce a new superphone, as if those two models with 2GB of RAM weren’t enough. I’m talking this time about the LG E970 model, that was recently spotted in GLBenchmark. The handset comes with a 720p display and an Adreno 320 GPU, one of the chips found on Qualcomm’s most potent chipsets. This is supposedly an AT&T phone, that scored 60 fps in Egypt 2.1 and 2.1 Pro standard tests. Experts say that a display with vsync would limit the tests from jumping to higher frame rates, but one thing is for sure: we’re dealing with a graphically potent smartphone here. Right now all we have is a benchmark and a codename and I can only imagine how pretty games like N.O.V.A 3 and Mass Effect (Android version) look on this device. Hopefully it also has DLNA or HDMI, so we can move the fun to a bigger screen. Also, I’d be surprised if this model didn’t have a great camera, maybe a big display. Any theories on what CPU we’re dealing with here? A new generation of Qualcomm maybe? Have you say in the Comments section! Related posts: |
Motorola RAZR HD Spotted in Cellebrite System, Model Number is XT926 Posted: 29 May 2012 01:09 AM PDT Motorola Droid RAZR HD (XT926), a device we’ve been hearing about ever since the Droid RAZR was launched has just started showing up in 3rd party Cellebrite systems. This doesn’t necessarily mean that we’re getting closer to its release, but at least it’s a sign of its existence. Also known under the codename Droid Fighter, the Droid RAZR HD was supposed to launch this month, most likely on Verizon. For some reason it has not launched and as far as specs go, you should expect a 720p screen and probably the dual core Snapdragon S4 processor, that everyone is talking about. I have to remind you that in China there was already a version of the Droid RAZR with 720p screen and 13 megapixel camera available months ago, so it doesn’t surprise us to see the RAZR HD now. I’m not sure that the 13MP cam part will also make it here, but an 8 megapixel one with at least the quality of the sensors on the HTC One S and One X will be perfect. Hopefully, the new device will come with Android 4.0 ICS preinstalled, so we won’t have to wait for it, like we’re doing now with the Droid RAZR and RAZR MAXX. Related posts: |
