and want my name at the top
just to know that I brought it
to know I’ve still got it
that I’ve snagged my reward
and man I’m not bored
when I’m out for blood
and I’m going in hard
I want to build an experience
not just another app
this whole mobile thing
is not just another fad

Video: CNet’s Prizefight: HTC Titan II vs. Nokia Lumia 900

Posted: 09 May 2012 04:40 PM PDT

CNET compares the HTC Titan II against the Nokia Lumia 900. Three judges vote (out of 5) for each criteria and an average score is then given.

Who won? The Nokia :D

  • Design
  • Controls/UI
  • Features
  • Value

Brian Tong says the HTC just couldn’t connect any punches. The Nokia Lumia 900 took the lead with a final knock out punch taking the battle to 4.4 vs 3.9. Brian says Nokia’s doing WP proud but there’s still a long road ahead to prove itself in the market. Quite right.

NokConv: Behind the scenes of Nokia 808 PureView shot film

Posted: 09 May 2012 04:00 PM PDT

Do you remember the promo video of the Nokia 808 PureView, shot completely on the Nokia 808 PureView? :)

http://mynokiablog.com/2012/04/20/video-awesome-nokia-808-pureview-shot-filmpromo-nokconv-zeiss-from-n90-to-808/

Of course you did, it was amazing! Check out the behind the scenes look on how it was made. It answers many questions you might have had.

http://conversations.nokia.com/2012/05/09/nokia-pureview-808-shows-its-talents/

Interesting points:

  • At the time it was shot, the product was top secret and they were apparently paranoid about people seeing the device. Nokia approached the film makers late 2011.
  • “They deliberately didn't tell us the magical 41-megapixel figure, so we weren't really sure what we were looking at”
  • The film crew were later disorientated upon realising how much detail the camera was able to capture, zooming in and out.
  • Originally planned to have a dozen location but budget and time scaled things down. Seriously, we don’t need exotic locations. Just show the detail in the mundane as amazing!
  • No massive crew was used, no fancy complex lighting or actors
  • 720p film because it was apparently intended for a section at Nokia that could only handle 720p – only afterwards did they decide to put it on YouTube. Hmm ok.
  • “Working with a camera phone, we were able to get pictures that we wouldn't have been able to take with a DSLR. Because it's a phone, you can get closer to people, deeper into scenarios, without people becoming self-aware.”

Mooaar videoos: Nokia 808 PureView at CTIA

Posted: 09 May 2012 01:05 PM PDT

The more videos we see of the Nokia 808 PureView the more it shows off that it can take photos time and time and time again that will blow your mind. They’re not just one offs, they’re not just one good photo from a batch of crap, they’re always amazing.

In the first video, PureView mode is compared with full res. The zooming in to reveal detail you would never expects never fails to impress.

I don’t like how the guy demoing differentiates PureView and Full resolution as the full resolution making use of the full sensor. Both PureView and Full res uses full resolution of the sensor. It’s a shame that Nokia doesn’t seem to have trained these guys too consistently. It’s not rocket science.

It is sooo frustrating that the guy doesn’t seem to know how to use the phone at all. He shows his frustration on camera going ‘come on…oh stop it’ :/ WTF. Then he goes on to say ‘as you can tell, I don’t use this phone all that often’. Who on earth is this guy? He does eventually zoom in on a face showing a moustache’s individual hairs.

by

I think same as the first video, but different angle. I don’t like the whole ‘same symbian experience – good stuff’. I’ve been very critical of Symbian but even I must point out it’s not the same Symbian. Belle FP1 is a really good improvement.

by

CTIA is in New Orleans, USA. Why have the 808 PureView in USA? Perhaps to showcase Nokia technologies or as Chris Weber said, it’s coming to the USA.

Video: Amazing Nokia Lumia TVC feat. Kris Aquino – Nokia Pilipinas

Posted: 09 May 2012 09:10 AM PDT

Here you go. A better Lumia advert from Nokia Philippines compared to the other one we saw very early this morning. Well, I think so anyway.

This is Kris Aquino. ‘iLuvn’ who posted this link said:

‘They’ve got the most sought after endorser Kris Aquino.  Now they must be serious.  If they can do a widespread endorsement of this degree over Asia Pacific they might get more traction in the second half.’

Kris Aquino is a TV host, actress and celebrity in the Philippines. She’s in various shows, including a Philippine version of Britain’s Got Talent, Pilipinas Got Talent. Her brother is the President of the Philippines.

I like that, not only is there someone prominent (and hence someone to pay attention to) but that they’re showing things to do with the phone, things it’s doing well, with close up of the UI and the phone design.

The simulated screens could have been done by someone other than a preschooler though.

by

Cheers iluvn  for the tip

Her complexion looks kinda odd in this video. Almost like Geisha make up. Is the skin-whitening fad still popular in the Philippines? Every time I go there, there’s adverts for skin whitening. And then over here in the UK it’s about tanning and going darker :/

Video: Nokia 808 PureView – See the unseen! (hands on, crazy zooming again!)

Posted: 09 May 2012 06:22 AM PDT

LOL. The Nokia 808 PureView’s camera just won’t cease amusing me. It’s just too good. Look at it in this hands on from Nokia Brazil. They zoom in to portions of a picture like as if it’s CSI hollywood zoom and enhance magic.

It keeps blowing my mind everytime they show me a picture and then zoom out. :O. I want Nokia ads like this.

See the unseen.

LOL

Let’s look back at some of that zooming action before;

Your Manga Reader is a fully functioning Manga reader that allows you to download and read thousands (not an exaggeration) of comics in either English or Vietnamese.  Personally I’m not a huge Manga guy (hardly at all) but I know alot of people who are practically addicted so this might come in handy.

- I assume the awkward screen resolution is due to the default WP resolution?

Nokia 808 PureView coming to USA in next couple of months – (+ Apollo Updates?)

Posted: 09 May 2012 03:46 AM PDT

Interesting snippet from a PCMag interview with Chris Weber, President of Nokia USA:

In the meantime, U.S. phone buffs will soon be able to get hold of the PureView 808, Nokia’s 41-megapixel camera phone. While the phone won’t be picked up by a U.S. carrier, it’ll be AT&T-compatible and sold unlocked here, according to Weber.

We’ll figure out a way to make that available in the U.S. in the next couple of months,” he said.

http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2404151,00.asp

PureView coming to the US in some way in the next couple of months. Great stuff!

There’s a microscopic possibility he’s talking about a Lumia PureView but the fact that a couple of months is mentioned says it’s the 808 given Lumia PureView is not expected until 2013.

Speaking of Lumia, just before that, Weber was asked about WP8 update:

Both Nokia and Microsoft understand the importance for consumers to keep their devices fresh and updated. Without any announcements being made, we’re working to make sure people have fresh and updated experiences on any device they may have

http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2404151,00.asp

Similar wording to whether Nokia will get a phone on Verizon.

We’re not making any announcements, but we understand the importance of Verizon and we’re working hard to make that a reality

http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2404151,00.asp

Verizon have already confirmed they’ll be backing WP and there are plenty of rumours around already of some Lumias heading to Verizon.
