Rumours: More info on S40 and Meltemi Posted: 11 May 2012 07:29 PM PDT Quick post as I am on my work lunch break but thought this needed to be shared. (Sorry if there are typos, posting straight from my N950). As always, take this with huge pinches of salt. My source told me some intersting things regarding S40 and Meltemi. The next bit of information was that Meltemi is more related to MeeGo, than just the UI. We already know QT will be a part of it, and that it is Linux based (possibly SmarterPhone) but what else could be shared? Will it be based of the proper MeeGo core, or Harmattan? The more we find out about the two platforms, the more excited I get. Hopefully the Next Billion event will shed some more light on the rumours. MIchael |
Weekend Watch: Nokia presents: Adventures in London – (What does this have to do with anything?) Posted: 11 May 2012 05:52 PM PDT Unless this is filmed with a Nokia (808) I have no idea what this is. (Doubtful it’s a phone given the shallow depth of field – though it does have that cellphone wobble all throughout the video). I don’t quite understand what this has to do with phones or Nokia. It reminds me of the E7 Success campaign. But worse. What is this? There’s not even an arbitrary frame made to look like a Nokia.

Nokia 808 PureView, expected in India for 30K INR Posted: 11 May 2012 05:38 PM PDT AndroSym took a look at Nokia India’s pagesource for the Nokia 808 and it suggests that the price of the Nokia 808 Black at http://nokia.indiatimes.com to be 29,999INR 30K INR is roughtly 348GBP or 433 EUR. Close to the 450EUR expected at UAE. Not bad. Similar page source details are confirmed for the Nokia E5 which mentions pricing in this manner. Cheers Prashant for the tip! |
Weekend watch: Smoked variants for France and South Africa Posted: 11 May 2012 05:27 PM PDT I don’t know why but this campaign is irritating me now. Yet it continues under new names in France as a ‘speed test’ and in South Africa as a ‘Lost to Lumia’. Sure. Go ahead. Keep pushing this and ignoring other neat things about WP Lumia, Nokia. Tell me more about the wireless syncing. No wires. Just automatic. Show me the facebook album. Show me again, the people hub. Let’s do some demoes of Nokia Drive. ETC. Show me other things people might be interested in. Not just it doing a bunch of same things their phones can do but faster. It’s all fun and all seeing people amazed at how quickly it’s doing these same set of actions, but seriously there’s other things you should be promoting. Whilst all this is happening are we actually even seeing the steps of what’s happening anymore? No. We’re just seeing the tops or the sides of phones and then finally someone saying ‘Done’. What’s the point. What’s the actual message? Be a little bit more imaginative guys.
by NokiaFrance Those white Purity headsets are looking pretty slick though. Cheers Daniel Johansson for the tip! |
Posted: 11 May 2012 02:07 PM PDT Lightning quick post here since I just discovered that there’s a complete chapter included in my exam tomorrow that I didn’t know about, here’s a video showing off Tango running on the Lumia 710 (coming soon hopefully to all) Current Changelog:

Lumiappaday #178: Drop it Out demoed on the Nokia Lumia 800 Posted: 11 May 2012 10:20 AM PDT This is an interesting accelerometer based puzzle game. You have a ball and a wire-maze. The ball can travel along this ‘wire’ by moving your Lumia. You must get it to the end point but avoid falling or hitting an obstacle or you’ll restart. Drop It Out is in 3D and you can pinch zoom/rotate. This is useful in later levels when the maze is on multiple planes. #178) Drop it out

Nokia 808 PureView spotted in Khalida’s Mall, UAE Posted: 11 May 2012 03:26 AM PDT This may be the first sales ready Nokia 808 PureView seen at it was found at a Khalida’s Mall, UAE. The 808 is currently in limited quanities and the price would be about 500 Dirhams? (Not sure if that’s a typo as a search says that’s equivalent to 84GBP. Perhaps it’s 5000) No samples could be taken but it was tested and it was apparently amazing! Apparently he wasn’t allowed to show anyone yet. How excited would you be to see the Nokia 808 PureView in a shop?!
Cheers Mohammed for the photos!

Guy wins Nokia 808 PureView from Nokia Lebanon Posted: 11 May 2012 03:23 AM PDT With the Nokia 808 PureView so sought after, we’re excited to hear about the first possible users. Nokia Lebanon seems to have awarded someone a Nokia 808 PureView. I’m not sure what the reason was but it seems they might have been at an event about the PureView since the winner was tweeting from some presentation. I think it went to a great winner – he seems to be a very passionate photographer that could do the Nokia 808 Justice. Cheers KF for the tip! |
