Video: Nokia Hands on: Lumia 610, 800, 900 and 808 PureView!

Posted: 19 May 2012 04:13 PM PDT

Ooh, what’s this? Hands on with the Nokia 808 PureView again? :D

This one is professionally shot (in Russian) but before you see the 808, you also get the chance to look at Nokia 610, 800 and 900. You can see the 900 next to the 800 but not next to the 808.

The video is 9 minutes long and the 808 bit is mainly just about the camera (though sadly they don’t look at the pics taken).

Gallery: Nokia 808 PureView Sample shots :) Zoom, zoom, zoom :D

Posted: 19 May 2012 02:02 PM PDT

Hey, it’s another Nokia 808 PureView Gallery of sample pictures. As always, the photos are looking great.

Note: None of the pictures here are the original pic – they’re just screenshots. Go check out:

http://minus.com/mv72e4LVH/1g

Let’s play a game. Can you find where this is?

Where abouts in this picture? Haha. The detail resolved is craazy :) Every time I zoom in, it’s still sharp.

Check out this lucky guy and the Nokia 808 PureView. We rarely see the photographer.

This looks like a decent close up.

As does this.

But that’s only a tiny portion of the picture.

Days 1-3 with the Asha 302 #SmartPhoneLiteWeek

Posted: 19 May 2012 12:11 PM PDT

Hey guys, so this is just a random update on how things are coming along with #SmartPhoneLiteWeek; for those of you who missed out on the last episode it’s where I only use an Asha 302 for the next week or so, here are some random points about my transition so far.

  • I quickly became accustomed to the keypad (Which is quite excellent) even though I’ve never been a fan of hardware Qwertys the Asha ‘s is very simple to get the hang of; as I previously mentioned my only beef I were pressed to mention one is that the Spacebar is a tad bit stiff. Overall however it’s an excellent KB.
  • Whatsapp (which is essential to me) is quite functional on the Asha, capable of running in the background (supporting push messages) as well as the ability to shortcut a specific conversation to the homescreen (like a widget which takes you directly to a specific convo.).
  • As the point of these Feature phones is to provide cheap data consumption everywhere on the phone you have the option to compress photos or data be it when uploading downloading or browsing (although honestly photos look bad enough WITHOUT compressing them)
  • I was pleasantly surprised to find out that I could easily hook up the 302 to my cars bluetooth system and Receive/Dial through it without having to touch the phone, also streaming music to the cars stereo was a breeze and worked flawlessly- however the track details weren’t all completely sent (only the songs name appears on the info, compared to the Lumia which copies the songs name, album, artist etc.) while at the same time my friends E52 failed to send any info about the tracks and would cut out intermittently while playing.

Sorry for the crap quality but I took this with the Asha while driving, so conditions were less than ideal. point is track name was available to the cars system

  •  The 302 also natively supports uploading photos to Flickr out of the box (part of it’s Nokia Social) which is a feature that isn’t available on S^3 devices.
  • Battery life so far as expected has not been an issue, running on 2.5 days with multiple phone calls, texts, Continuous WiFi connection, Bluetooth constantly on, about 3 hours of Music streaming on Bluetooth and yet I still have a bout a bar of battery left.  If only my Lumia could get the same usage out of it’s similar 1400 Ma battery.

Honestly so far the only things I miss about a full featured smartphone (particularly my Lumia) are:

  1. Wordament- it has practically become my addiction playing it before I sleep and while waiting for anything at all
  2. A reddit browser- particularly Baconit
  3. The ability to open links which are sent via whatsapp.

Well that’s about it so far- I’ll be sure to keep you guys posted.

Also if you guys want a bit more #SmartPhoneLiteWeek read what @Yash has to say about his week so far over at UnleashThePhones

Whatsapp For WP Updated to V2.0 – Brings Profile Pictures & Bug FIxes

Posted: 19 May 2012 11:28 AM PDT

Not to be outdone by the release of it’s unofficial Meego client whatsapp for WIndows Phone has been updated to the big two-O, (honestly I cheated on my #SmartPhoneLiteWeek a bit today cause I had to upload some images of a document- and the Ashas camera is unbearable), as I was using the Lumia I spotted the update and downloaded it, the latest version brings:

  • Ability to set your profile picture
  • Several bug fixes
  • Some users are also reporting that now they get a notification of when they’re free service expires (on Symbian it constantly said it expires after a year but never did- sort of like winzip).

Nokia 808 PureView hands on from the Philippines

Posted: 19 May 2012 09:44 AM PDT

Here’s an interesting hands on of the Nokia 808 PureView – interesting because apparently it was in the Philippines. There is no sign yet of the 808 at Nokia Philippines. Hopefully this is just the first of the 808s heading to the Philippine market.

I got a chance to play with a prototype Nokia 808 Pureview at the Nokia Lumianation event at the Bonifacio Amphitheatre. The Nokia 808 Pureview has 41 megapixel camera with a very very large sensor for a mobile phone. And yes folks, the quality of the images were great.

Videos: Nokia Camera Extension (Group Shot and Pano)

Posted: 19 May 2012 06:01 AM PDT

We just posted about the camera extension app. Hopefully these will be features integrated into the main camera. Ah, Simon below comments it IS already deeply linked into the camera app. Nice :)

http://mynokiablog.com/2012/05/19/nokia-lumia-900-experience-nokia-hk-camera-extension-app-for-panoburst-shots-etc

First up, panorama. The UI is different to Creative Studio by Nokia.

Next, smartgroup. If you take a picture of a group of people and someone blinks, you can go ahead and just edit that person’s face to the point where they’re not blinking or have a better facial expression, without editing others.

This works by taking burst shot and then taking out the best part of each shot to combine into one picture.

It looks slow and it doesn’t work well with large movements.

This is like the Scalado rewind app, which BB10 seem to have incorporated.

More info at http://welovewp.hk/?p=6614

There’s still burst shot and self timer left to demo.

The pano looks quite good. Seems to do a good job in a relatively difficult environment to pano. It might be better than Creative Studio’s pano.

WP 7.5 Refresh/Tango available in India?

Posted: 19 May 2012 03:32 AM PDT

According to vignesh, India is already rolling out WP 7.5 Refresh/Tango.

Check out the Internet Sharing feature.

You can also see Nokia Store logo. These pics were snapped with a Nokia Lumia 710. Not bad – even after reduction in quality for upload/marking, they’re pretty decent, no?

Here’s the version number:

Nokia Lumia 900 Experience, Nokia HK + Camera Extension App for Pano/Burst shots etc

Posted: 19 May 2012 03:22 AM PDT

You may remember that a camera update has been expected for the Nokia Lumia series that provides, amongst other things, burst shot and panorama capture.

http://mynokiablog.com/2012/03/02/nokia-lumia-800-firmware-out-camera-update-with-panorama-sport-mode-self-timer-and-smart-group-shot/

There are already apps that do this – Nokia’s own Creative Studio allows for panoramic app creation for example.

We got an email from blogger Jack, that Nokia HK and a local retailer were going to get together for an experience about the Nokia Lumia 900. In addition to that, there will be an app from Nokia called ‘Camera Extension’ that will allow:

  • panorama feature,
  • smart group capture,
  • burst mode and
  •  self timer.

Video: Lumianation, Nokia Lumia 900 launch in the Philippines

Posted: 19 May 2012 12:17 AM PDT

There was something called ‘Lumianation’ in the Philippines the other day where they had a 3D/4D projection thing going on. It’s for the launch of the Nokia Lumia 900 but other Lumia handsets are also on show.

It’s kinda hard to see what’s going on with all them windows on the building.
