HTC One S Gets Unboxed by GSMDome.com – Thinnest, Best HTC Phone! (Video) Posted: 08 May 2012 03:44 PM PDT We’ve just received the HTC One S for testing purposes and our goal is to find if this model is actually better than the HTC One X, as some of the benchmarks out there claim. Well, first things first, we unboxed the unit, as shown in the video below. What we have here is the same box design as the one of the HTC One X and One V. Inside it there’s a charger, headphones (no Beats Audio), microUSB cable and the usual manuals. The handset uses a microSIM card slot hidden under a protection shell that covers the camera sensor. Its battery is non removable and there’s no microSD card slot on board, in case you’re wondering. This very thin handset is 7.8mm thick, which is very thin by HTC standards and it’s also very light, at 119.5 grams. The handset uses a 4.3 inch display with a 540 x 960 pixel resolution and it has an 8 megapixel camera at the back. HTC One S runs Android 4.0 with HTC Sense 4.0 and it looks and feels just fine in my hand. It’s pretty hard to choose between the One S and One X at the moment, but we’ll get back to you on that once we get the review done. Related posts: |
Kyocera Hydro and Rise, Two New Android 4.0 Handsets With Rugged Shells Posted: 08 May 2012 09:49 AM PDT Kyocera just unveiled two new Android 4.0 phones, that are appealing especially for people who like skinny dipping with their phones. Well, at least the new Kyocera Hydro will resist water contact, while the Kyocera Rise, the other newcomer may not quite be water resistant, as it has a sliding keyboard. Both models use Kyocera Dura series technology, so the Hydro is water resistant with ratings of IPx5 and IPx7, meaning that the handset won’t be damaged if you get caught in the rain or if you drop it in the sink. You can also submerge the device in water up to 1 meter deep for 30 minutes and it will be safe. Kyocera Rise packs a sliding touchscreen LCD, so actually the screen is the one that slides above the QWERTY keyboard. Both smartphones come with 3.5 inch HVGA displays (IPS LCD) and 1GHz Snapdragon processors. Both also provide 2GB of ROM, 512MB of RAM and microSD card slot support with 32GB capacity. And finally the two new Kyocera units offer 3.2 megapixel cameras with LED flash and the ability to record video. The handsets have WiFi, Bluetooth, USB 2.0 and 3 axis accelerometers among others. Pricing is a mystery right now. Related posts: |
Samsung Reference Design Tizen Device Spotted, Caught on Camera (Video) Posted: 08 May 2012 06:55 AM PDT Tizen OS has been getting a lot of press this year, since everyone is looking for that other OS to be famous, aside from Android, iOS and Windows Phone. BlackBerry OS doesn’t even count anymore, while Bada has been getting a lot of sales over the past years. Now Tizen is back in the news, through a leak that shows a Samsung prototype running this platform. Tizen is a Linux-based open source platform that has just reached version 1.0 for its source code and SDK release. Tizen Talk found the phone you see here at the Tizen Developer Conference in San Francisco and said that a bunch of companies are using the device to demo their products. The handset is made by Samsung, with the photo you see above being taken at the booth of the South Korean company. This reference design gizmo uses an ARM-based 1.2 GHz dual core CPU, a 4.3 inch display with a 1024 x 720 pixel resolution and what looks like a bulky case. Sprint recently announced that it will be the first North American carrier to join the Tizen initiative and the list of partners is becoming really impressive, with the likes of Orange, Vodafone, NTT DoCoMo, SK Telecom, Intel and Samsung also being part of the project. I’m curious if Tizen and Bada will fuse in the Samsung portofolio, or if they’ll give up Bada in favour of this OS. Hands on experience with their prototype below: Related posts: |
Sony LT29i Hayabusa Leaks, Shows Us Curved Edges Posted: 08 May 2012 01:30 AM PDT We’ve been hearing about Sony’s Hayabusa phone for a while now and here it is again, in a leak that shows us a handset with unique curved edges. This model is also rumored to be pretty thin, at a mere 7mm in waistline, so it will finally be a match for the ultraslim Motorola Droid RAZR. The Hayabusa recently appeared in the hand of a tester and now it leaks again in blurry shots. This model is supposed to feature a dual core Snapdragon S4 processor, like most high end phones do nowadays. I wonder if Qualcomm will be able to take this huge amount of orders, considering that the HTC One S, One XL and ASUS PadFone are all based on this CPU. Back to the Sony LT29i, the Hayabusa comes with a 13 megapixel camera with Exmor sensor and a 4.55 inch HD display. There’s also a 2200 mAh battery on board and probably also LTE. Speculations say that we might see this model taking off in June or July, under the codename Xperia GX. The price should be around $630 unsubsidized, taken straight from Sony’s leaked roadmap for 2012. Related posts: |
Samsung Focus 2 4G LTE Windows Phone Launched on AT&T Posted: 08 May 2012 01:03 AM PDT If you’re looking for an alternative to the $99 Nokia Lumia 900, than AT&T also offers the Samsung Focus 2, a 4G LTE handset with windows Phone on board. Focus 2 will come on May 20th in pure view and it will be priced at $49.99 with contract. So, just when you thought that the $99 offer for the Lumia 900 was hot, here comes this Samsung model and beats it. You can also get the Samsung newcomer for $399.99 off contract. Samsung Focus 2 features a 4 inch Super AMOLED screen, a 5 megapixel camera with 720p video capture and a front VGA camera. This is a 4G LTE handset that measures 0.43 inches in thickness and weighs 4.3 ounces. The phone makes the WP portofolio on AT&T a pretty strong one, accompanied by the HTC Titan II and its 16 megapixel camera and the Nokia Lumia 900. Their prices are great, specs are pretty good and you can be sure that the promotion behind them is huge. So, if you want a sleek and stylish handset made by Samsung, running Windows Phone and supporting LTE, then this is the perfect choice. Related posts: |
