Baidu Preparing New Cloud OS, First Device Running it Pictured Posted: 14 May 2012 08:26 AM PDT Chinese search engine Baidu was rumored last year to be working on its very own OS, based on a cloud solution. Called Yi, this OS hasn’t been spotted on any real device, up until today when a picture of a smartphone leaked. Now rumors are saying that we’re supposed to expect an official debut of the new OS this week. The mobile operating system will be called simply Baidu Cloud and the company’s head of mobile, Wang Jing stated that partnerships are ready to take place and an announcement will come soon. The image you see here is supposed to have appeared on the Sina Weibo account of the company’s mobile director Yue Guofeng, but it was pulled after a while. The handset looks colourful and reminds me a bit of the Nokia Lumia lineup, combined with that squared design of the LG Optimus L series. The device is said to have a 3.5 inch touchscreen, 100GB of cloud storage and a Siri-like voice control mechanism, courtesy of Baidu. The price will be around $158, with a China Unicom contract and a release slated for the middle of the current month. I also expect a tablet with the Baidu OS to be announced pretty soon, as well. Did they just leak the specs for the new Google Nexus? Posted: 14 May 2012 08:25 AM PDT The next Google phone under the Nexus brand will be the first model with the new version of Android - Jelly Bean. So much we know almost with certainty. Besides that there are only rumors, like the one stating that Samsung will be the Manufacturer. The Nexus line is very important for the Android ecosystem. These are reference models, addressed especially to developers but as of lately it has become a very commercial brand and everybody wants one. That is because the specs are amazing and once you own a Nexus model you are guaranteed to receive timely updates for the next two years. You may have heard or used on your Android phone one of the custom ROM series called Oxygen. The developer of these ROMs is Adam Green and by chance, while going through the AOSP (Android Open Source Project) code provided by Google, he stumbled upon comprehensive information about the specifications of a device manufactured by Samsung. It seems that it will be the first to include the new generation of CPUs manufactured by ARM - Cortex A15, in a dual core configuration. The processor is up to five times faster than the current generation based on the Cortex A9. The chipset is manufactured by Samsung - Exynos5250 with an improved Mali 400 GPU, four times faster than the one currently in the Galaxy S2. Camera is 5MP and has a all new BSI sensor (Backside Iluminated) from Samsung, same as the one found in the Galaxy SIII. For audio there is the Wolfson WM8994 Chip that Samsung has used in other models, like the Nexus S. As for the screen, though we have no info about the technology behind it all we can say is that the resolution is the same as the one on the Galaxy Note – 1280×800. The screen resolution is the only thing that would make us think of a tablet more then a smartphone. Otherwise, I was already expecting a configuration for the next Nexus with a A15 Cortex CPU. Even if “just” dual core, I’m sure it will outscore even the newest devices on the market. Camera resolution is the same used in all Nexus models. One can only hope for some more information, maybe at Google I/O in June.Personally, I count on this configuration for the next Nexus.

Samsung Galaxy S III Accessories Pictured and Detailed: C Pen Stylus, Flip Cover and More Posted: 14 May 2012 07:12 AM PDT Samsung Galaxy S III may have been showcased and announced on May 3rd, but its accessories were merely mentioned at the time. Luckily last week had CTIA 2012 taking place in the USA and that was the perfect occasion for some more fondling of the latest Samsung flagship phone. Among them we find the C Pen, a capacitive stylus that’s a bit larger than the Galaxy Note S Pen but it looks comfortable to hold. Also in the mix there’s a flip cover accessory, that replaces the handset’s back panel and protects the screen without thickening up the machine. Also interesting is the WiFi Display Hub, a HDMI packing gadget that brings your media to a larger screen. Finally, there’s a dock that’s used as a removable battery charger. I’m pretty surprised that the wireless charging adapter announced in London isn’t on the list… Back to the Galaxy S III holder and battery charger, this unique gadget holds the Galaxy S III upright and also allows the battery charged in the back pocket. It supports charging an extra battery if you want. Which one of these accessories interests you the most? Hopefully prices will be decent, since everyone will be broke after buying a Galaxy S III… Related posts: |
iPhone Borrows the Cool Floating Keyboard From BlackBerry 10 OS (Video) Posted: 14 May 2012 06:31 AM PDT If you’re not happy with the likes of Swype, T9 or even the standard iPhone keyboard, there’s a new alternative in town. The BlackBerry 10 OS virtual keyboard is actually pretty cool, once you get to know it. Now, iOS developer Mario Hros has come up with the Octopus Keyboard, a new way of input for the iPhone, that’s borrowed from the BlackBerry 10 OS. This custom iPhone keyboard gets the auto prediction system from RIM, the one that was shown at BlackBerry World 2012 and the one you can watch in action on an iPhone below. This gesture-based UI makes its way to iOS and in case you’re wondering how RIM came up with such a wonderful thing, they were for a long time the makers of the best QWERTY devices on the market and they used that expertise to create a virtual array of keys plus a nifty input system. Instead of queuing words in a line above the keys, they make the words hover around the user’s fingers. As shown in the video below you can access the needed words with a simple swipe, for faster typing. Octopus Keyboard has its very own completion engine, that learns new words as you enter them. It works with any input language with key input, although there are some issues in this beta version, especially when it comes to auto punctuation and auto capitalization. The full release till take place on May 20 and right now you need a jailbroken iPhone to make it work. Related posts: |
HTC Desire C Shows Its Pretty Face on Press Shot, Specs Leaked on Vodafone Posted: 14 May 2012 05:23 AM PDT After Orange Romania made a boo-boo and leaked live pictures of the HTC Desire C on its Facebook page, now the device formerly known as HTC Golf or Wildfire C leaks again. This time it’s a press shot and a bunch specs leaked on Vodafone Portugal. Here’s the official shot of the HTC newcomer: Vodafone Portugal included this model in its May catalog before the announcement, probably making HTC angrier than it already is for all these leaks. The model is confirmed to sport a 3.5 inch screen with a 320 x 480 pixel resolution and an unexpectedly underpowered 600 MHz processor. The connectivity provided here is 3.5 G (probably HSDPA) and we also get 4GB of storage, a 5 megapixel camera (opposed to the 3MP one rumored initially) and Android 4.0 ICS as the OS. Basically, you can imagine this model as some sort of lower end offering of the One series, in case you didn’t already consider the One V as making that offer. Insiders say that the phone uses a 1230 mAh battery and that it should retail soon for lower than 200 euros. I expect an official launch ASAP! Related posts: |
Nokia 311 Fresh Pictures Leaked: UI Looks a bit Like MeeGo, “S40″ supports Multitouch Posted: 14 May 2012 03:59 AM PDT This weekend we saw what looked like S40 touch Nokia phones leaking on the web. Now one of these models is detailed even more, through a funky manual leak and some fresh pics. I’m talking about the Nokia 311 phone, that’s shown below, together with some shots from its cute manual. I say cute because it’s done like some sort of comic book. It’s a very nice approach, that finally changes those rigid pieces of paper filled with numbers and specifications. However, the same playful manual also reveals something very interesting: this handset is actually running an OS that’s very modern, although we thought it was merely S40. It appears you can swipe around the UI, you’ll have a central icon grid, just like on MeeGo and then a homescreen on the left and dialer on the right. You can also configure those windows, making me think that we finally got the ideal OS on a lower end device. You can swipe to answer calls, pinch to zoom (a crazy feat for S40!), use widgets and reorganize lists. If Nokia really does pull this through, the device will not only sell well, but it will be start of their next billion of units sold. It’s nice to see Nokia doing something that looks successful for a change. Related posts: |
