Sony ST21i Tapioca Specs Leak, Confirmation Through Benchmark

Posted: 04 May 2012 04:59 AM PDT

We’ve heard about Sony ST21i Tapioca before, but this time we have a confirmation of its rumored specs, courtesy of a leaked benchmark. The ST21i Tapioca is supposed to be a lower end device made by Sony and a device that packs a sub 1 GHz CPU and other similar features.

What you see here is the NenaMark 2 benchmark result for the Tapioca, that reveals its resolution and CPU. We’re dealing with a phone that uses 512 MB of RAM, a 3. 2 inch 320 x 480 pixel display and a 3 megapixel camera. This model was supposed to debut with Android 4.0 ICS, but I highly doubt that after seeing the specs. The CPU is a Qualcomm unit with Adreno 200 GPU. I see this handset as a rival for the HTC Wildfire S, or better yet, the Wildfire C, that’s rumored to be the lower end model of the One Series.

It appears from the benchmark that the phone is actually running Android 4.0.3, unbelievable as it may seem, showing once again that this OS can run on some of the lowest specced devices out there. However, I’m certainly more interested in the rumored Xperia Hayabusa high end unit than this newcomer…

T-Mobile Huawei Prism Officially Announced; Priced at $149.99

Posted: 04 May 2012 03:39 AM PDT

If you’re looking for a cheap Android phone, then the T-Mobile Huawei Prism may suit your needs. This is a budget phone available on T-Mobile for as low as $149.00 off contract. You can also get it for $19.99 with a new 2 year agreement with the carrier, after a $50 mail in rebate.

The Huawei Prism made an appearance in early March on the web and we know that it comes with a 3.5 inch HVGA display, a 3.2 megapixel back camera and Android 2.3 Gingerbread as the OS. Don’t wait too much for the Android 4.0 update, as that’s very unlikely to happen. Huawei Prism will initially be sold on Best Buy starting May 6 and on May 9 customers will also find it at Walmart. T-Mobile intends to release the smartphone all over the nation (including online) starting May 23rd.

Hopefully, they’ll give it for free on contract at some point, since I don’t see why they’re asking 20 bucks for a budget phone with 2 years of commitment. It would make a nice second phone if you already own a smartphone…

LG Announces First Smartphone With 2GB of RAM: Optimus LTE2

Posted: 04 May 2012 02:32 AM PDT

As a response to yesterday’s Samsung Galaxy S III announcement, today LG unveiled the LG Optimus LTE2 model, the first handset with 2GB of RAM. You can see the phone in the picture below and as far as I can see, it sticks to the industrial design of the L series, with that squared format.

We’re dealing here with a phone that might actually have a better case than the Galaxy S III, since it uses glass and metal for its body, not plastic like the Samsung newcomer. LG Optimus LTE2 uses a TrueHD IPS display, that’s most likely a 720p display and the True naming comes from the standard RGB subpixel layout. Meanwhile, the Galaxy S III relies on a PenTile RGBG layout. Of course, the main appeal here is the 2GB of RAM you get on this LG phone, a first for mobile phones.

I wonder if we’ll really feel that extra GB, but having seen the HTC One X using easily 70% of its RAM, I tend to say we will… Other features worth mentioning for this phone are LTE, Android 4.0 and a 2,150 mAh battery. It also supports wireless induction charging and its camera can be operated by using the voice command. No info about the CPU on board, although Snapdragon S4 would be a safe choice. This model will debut sooner than you think, in mid-May, at least in Korea.
