Marko Ahtisaari and Stephen Elop – Wired: Nokia’s Last Stand

Posted: 20 May 2012 05:50 PM PDT

I wanted to share this story a while ago but I wanted to delve into the details as there’s a lot of juicy information said here. Unfortunately I’ve just been sooo busy lately with Uni exams (still more to go) that this just kept falling further back into the drafts whilst quicker stories popped up instead.

I thought I’ll just share the link for now and try t go back to it some other time when I can. It was a really good read the first time I came across it, distracting me from revision with some of the new interesting bits of info to expand on.

Marko Ahtisaari and Stephen Elop both have plenty of interesting things to say.  I’d recommend taking 5-10 minutes to read it and take it in.

e.g. Should we take this as more goings on for Meltemi/S40 revamp?

“We have increased our R&D spending [on low-end mobile phones],” he says, “so there’s clearly something being developed, underway. There’s some excitement there.”

That’s just one of many things said.

I’d love to dig into the article but so pressed for time at the moment :/.

BTW, if you’re going to comment, please read the linked article so we can stay on topic:

Lumiappaday #187: Cliffed demoed on the Nokia Lumia 800

Posted: 20 May 2012 03:16 PM PDT

Cliffed is a reaction style race to the bottom. Your guy can’t jump so when he comes across a boulder, he must go all the way around back to the other side to get at the gap in the floor. Hurry though because if you fall our of frame (i.e. the top bit catches you up) you lose. A good tactic is to try and free-fall as long as you can on the gaps.

808 Pureview up for Pre-Order in India

Posted: 20 May 2012 01:43 AM PDT

Quick tip, anyone itching to get their hands on the 808 can now register online via Nokia India to preorder/be informed once it’s available; frankly I’m surprised it hasn’t launched yet in India, but from what I understand the first countries to get it will be the MEA region (Lebanon, Jordan…)- first time we ever get a phone first. As a matter of fact the launch was a week or two ago and they’re just waiting for the shipments to arrive now.

Go ahead and pre-order yours here:

Video How To: Nokia 700 Digitizer & Display Screen Replacement

Posted: 20 May 2012 12:00 AM PDT

Screen replacements. Or any type of phone disassembly. This is NOT something I would recommend anyone try.

But I have come across plenty of people who have said they’ve had to replace screens themselves so I guess there will be people out there who might find this useful. e.g. if you smash the screen and it needs replacing. Some places might charge an arm and a leg for repair.

Note, this is not covered in your warranty so be warned in case you break something.

Fortunately in this video, you can see just how to take the screen apart properly.
